A two-part quiz, inspired by one Bilbo (I think) put up recently.
Identify the following people: - This author is a fan of vampires, but not of the sort who sparkle in the sun, or choose to spend their immortality going to high school. Anne Rice. HomeInMyShoes 1 point. - A poet who wrote of the courtship of two unlikely lovers. Finding a wedding ring is among the challenges they face. Edward Lear. PDurrant 1 point. - In 1858 he published his "Table of the Relative Frequency of the Causes of Breakage of Plate Glass Windows", but he's rather better-known for his difference engine. Charles Babbage. HomeInMyShoes 1 point. - A novelist in her own right, but also known for her biography of a more famous writer. Elizabeth Gaskell. Billi 1 point. - The earlier of only two US presidents who have faced losing the position via a legislative process described in Article Two of the Constitution. Andrew Johnson. Hamlet53 1 point. - Though a powerful king himself, remembered mainly as the father of a great son. Philip II of Macedon. Hamlet53 1 point. Link: members of the Royal Family. Pdurrant, 5 points. 1 point for each correctly identified. Five points for identifying the link between these answers. Final scores: Pdurrant, 6 points. Hamlet53, HomeInMyShoes 2 points each. Billi, 1 point. Last edited by Shayne Parkinson; 03-18-2014 at 05:10 PM. |

Write out all the positive integers as words, i.e.
one two three . . . . and then sort the list into alphabetical order. What's the first number in the list What's the last number in the list What's the most common first letter? What's the least common first letter? And what do you get if you add them all up and why? |

First = eight?
Last = two? Do you get infinity if you add them all up? Because there are an infinite number of positive integers? Last edited by Bilbo1967; 03-18-2014 at 04:17 PM. |

What's the last number in the list? There isn't one. As Bilbo notes there are an infinite number of positive integers.
Not sure what add them all up would mean either. Eight + ? + T + O = ? |
