Just in time for JIAM (June Is Audiobook Month - and that's the last time I'm spelling it out this year), Audible has a new freebie up for preorder. If you're interested in a full-cast recording of "The Oedipus Plays" you can get it for free here.

Of course, we all are familiar with the Oedipus plays. The only questions concern the quality of the translation and the quality of the narrations (there are several narrators, which makes me think of LibriVox (Ack!), but I suppose that all of the narrators are necessary in order to provide for all of the different characters in the plays). $1.99 Whispersync Deal on this Highly Rated, Popular, Bestselling Western/Romance!
The book is a self-pub. Like most of you, that makes me leary of it. But this one has high ratings, is apparently popular (739 people have reviewed it), and is the #1 and #2 seller in two Kindle store categories. And, the Whispersync deal (audio, ebook, syncing) is only 11% of the price of the audio alone at Audible. It's a must-post.
Title: The Forgotten Child (Finding Love ~ The Outsider Series Book 1). Genre: Fiction (Western/Romance). Author(s): Lorhaine Eckhart. Price: $1.99 ($0.00 ebook (marked down) + $1.99 Whispersync audio). Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $17.95. Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.2 stars/739 reviews (Amazon). Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 3.5/14 ratings. Pages/Audio Length: 221/6 hours and 15 minutes. Narrator(s): Melissa Moran. Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/pd/Romance/Th...ok/B00NG10MDK/. Amazon URL (you can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Forgotten-Chi.../dp/B0063Y2OCE. Comments: Includes a free bonus novella--A Baby and a Wedding. This is book 1 in the Finding Love--The Outsider Series; there are 7 books in the series. The ebook is the #1 seller in Westerns and #2 in Series Romances in the Kindle store. Book Description (Amazon): In THE FORGOTTEN CHILD, Brad Friessen wasn't looking to love again. But what he got was a woman who shook his lonely bitter world upside down, and touched him in a way no other woman could. Emily Nelson, a courageous young mother, ends a loveless, bitter marriage and strikes out on her own. She answers an ad as a cook and live-in caregiver to a three-year-old boy on a local ranch. Ranch owner Brad Friessen hires and moves in Emily and her daughter. But Emily soon discovers something's seriously wrong with the boy, and the reclusive, difficult man who hired her can't see the behavior and how delayed his son is. So Emily researches until she stumbles across what she suspects are the soft signs of autism. Now she must tell him, give him hope, and help him come to terms with this neurological disorder—to take the necessary steps to get his child the help he needs. As their lives become intertwined, their attraction is unavoidable—a connection sparks between them. But just as they're getting close, Brad's estranged wife, Crystal, returns after abandoning the family two years earlier. Among the shock and confusion is one disturbing question Brad can't shake: How does Crystal know so much of his personal business, the inner working of the ranch, and Emily's relationship with his son? Crystal must've had a plan, as she somehow gains the upper hand, driving a wedge in the emotional bond forged between Brad, Emily, and the children. The primary focus for care and therapy of three-year-old Trevor is diverted. The lengths to which Crystal will go, the lies, the greed, just to keep what's hers, are nothing short of cold and calculating. Emily's forced out of the house. Brad fights to save his boy, to protect what's his, and struggles over his greatest sacrifice—Emily, and the haunting question: Has he lost her forever? |

Re-Post: WS Deal on Book about What Made the Mary Tyler Moore Show Great. $5.98.
Sometimes we do get second chances in life . . . .
I posted the Whispersync deal of Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted: And all the Brilliant Minds Who Made The Mary Tyler Moore Show a Classic (not to be confused with Bob and Carol, Ted and Alice of same era, G. ha) about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Surprisingly (to me, I don't think that I've observed this thing before), the price of the ebook just dropped in price, again already, to the same price that it was then. The price of the narration stayed the same, so the Whispersync deal price is the same as before--$5.98. I thought that one or more MobileReaders might like to know about this. If you missed out on the deal earlier in the month, you might want to take advantage of it now. I'm re-posting my post of 2 1/2 weeks ago exactly as it was then, with only a few minor changes (update to number of reviews, etc.) Title: Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted: And all the Brilliant Minds Who Made The Mary Tyler Moore Show a Classic. Genre: Non-Fiction (Arts & Entertainment/Television). Author(s): Jennifer Keishin Armstrong. Price: $5.98 ($1.99 ebook (marked down) + $3.99 Whispersync audio). Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $23.95 (1 credit). Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.2 stars/132 reviews (Amazon). Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 4.0/40 ratings. Pages/Audio Length: 337/11 hours and 22 minutes. Narrator(s): Amy Landon. Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/search/ref=a_...ywords&x=0&y=0. Amazon URL (can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Mary-Lou-Rhod.../dp/B008QYJBEI. Comments: Book Description (Amazon): When writer-producers James L. Brooks and Allan Burns dreamed up an edgy show about a divorced woman with a career, the CBS executives they pitched replied: “American audiences won’t tolerate divorce in a series’ lead any more than they will tolerate Jews, people with mustaches, and people who live in New York.” Forty years later, The Mary Tyler Moore Show is one of the most beloved and recognizable television shows of all time. It was an inspiration to a generation of women who wanted to have it all in an era when everything seemed possible. Jennifer Keishin Armstrong’s Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted tells the stories behind the making of this popular classic, introducing the groundbreaking female writers who lent real-life stories to their TV scripts; the men who created the indelible characters; the lone woman network executive who cast the legendary ensemble—and advocated for this provocative show—and the colorful cast of actors who made it all work. James L. Brooks, Grant Tinker, Allan Burns, Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Betty White, Gavin MacLeod, Ed Asner, Ted Knight, Georgia Engel—they all came together to make a show that changed women’s lives and television itself. Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted is the tale of how they did it. |

I read the book already (since last week's deal) and enjoyed it.
(PS No, you didn't remember wrongly: they didn't manage to make her "divorced" in the series. That's just the premise they WANTED to start with.) |

I didn't remember making a comment on the marital status of Mary on the show. I thought that maybe someone else did, but I couldn't find the post on 5-13 or after, if they did. |
