How would you feel if someone woke you up from a nice nap, dragged you out into the cold to see if you have a shadow or not, then stuck you back without so much as a thank you or apology for the trouble, then get yelled and cursed at when winter continues.

In a lull.

We had snow, sleet and a layer of ice yesterday. Now, it's 43° F and the roads are wet with runoff. Tonight it should go down to 7° and we'll get anywhere from 2 to 8 inches of new snow.

60 when I woke up at 5, 55 by 6 and 50 by 7:30 this morning. Holding steady at 43 now and it has rained steadily all day long.

It was very sunny, today, and the high temp got to 50° (F).

The downside of having such a warm day so soon after a heavy snow is that the snow on the roof doesn't melt away gradually -- sheets of it slide down (very loud if you're in the house) and it falls in slabs up to about suitcase-size.

However, I was able to clear quite a bit of ice by sliding the steel garden spade under the ice sheet, prying it up, breaking it into chunks, and carrying it over to the backyard. My wife was able to bring her car down.

In a couple of weeks we should be six inches deep in mud.
