Are you aware that you can get the Georgia font from your PC and use it on the Kindle? You're not necessarily dependent on fonts which are or are not available through this forum. I did it and it works great! Or is there something special about this Georgia2 font?

Ok... I got my first Kindle about 2 weeks ago. Now I want to install the Screensaver and Font hacks. (I'm not sure if there are any more hacks that I should know about.) I've got a Kindle 3 3G USA. (B006)

If there are any warning that anybody would like to give me, now would be the time.

I only installed the initial hack followed by the screensaver - no problems. I did not do the font hack.

I just installed the jailbreak and the screen saver hacks. Everything worked perfectly and I was a little worried!

Now I need to figure out how to place the blank random file so that things randomize, and also learn how to resize images! But what I've got now is working perfectly!

Thank you VERY much for this hack! I already feel like my Kindle is more "mine" than it was 15 minutes ago!

Some posted a Photoshop guide for converting photos yesterday.

I used the irfanview. I cropped sections of my color photos to a reasonable sized rectangle, then used it to modify the image to the 600x800 dimensions, accepting the bit of stretch or shrink. I also converted to b&w with some tweaking of contrast. Since I use a password, I also added a text line with my email address.

I think that I saw it in this thread, but somebody was saying that they were able to tweak the timeout setting for the screensaver. Can anybody point me to where that is explained? I'd like to increase the amount of time it takes for the screensaver to kick in.

@FF2 Thank you. I found some really great images online. Some guy with a police car as an avatar had a link in his signature line. Good stuff! (I think it was back around page 40, on this thread.)

For some reason the timeout hack was pulled. I think there were issues with some versions of the kindle but I don't recall the details. Occasionally someone has posted a link but I don't know if it is in this thread or another.

I"m pretty sure that I found it on page 81 of this thread. I'll probably try to install it tomorrow.

I'd also like to see if I can change my font. (I already ran the hack.) I think that all I need to do is decide which font I want to run, and then rename it whatever the name is in my Kindle and load it. (And probably reboot, of course.)

If I screw it up, I'm going to be hosed. Not sure what I'll do then!

Problem:

Yesterday I loaded the jailbreak, and fonts hacks. Everything went well! Just now I went to NodDog's blog site and found a font that I liked, so I downloaded the font from there, and loaded the fonts into my Kindle 3's inkfonts/fonts directory. After that I ejected my Kindle and wanted to do a soft reboot, but the Menu button wouldn't work so I had todo a hard reboot. (I held the On/Off switch over for 15 seconds.)

Upon reboot, I can't get into my settings menu! I'm worried! I hope I didn't screw things up badly!

The good news is that I backed up the old (hack) fonts before I overwrote them with the new fonts that I got from NodDog's site. I haven't tried reloading them yet.

Can anybody tell me what I should do next? I feel like I'm in over my head!

EDIT: I should say that when I try to get into the Settings page, I get taken right back to the Home page.

EDIT EDIT: When I reinstall the fonts that came with the hack, I can get back into the Settings (and Experimental) menu. It's only when I replace the Serif_*.TTL files that I get locked out.
