Which raises the question: Can UK Voyagers get Goodreads Integration by installing the US update and can US Voyagers ditch Goodreads Integration by installing the UK update?
It IS the same. The firmware is identical on all Voyage devices, but the actual features you see depend on which country your device is registered in. Goodreads integration is currently a US-only feature.

No, they do not. But, that is hardly surprising. This latest firmware must have been in development long before the Voyage was released. If they intend to address this issue, I would expect to see it in the next update.

I have been told I am rude and blunt a lot here in the US. Coming from Germany I simply refuse to adopt to the over-polite habits (compared to how I grew up). Especially annoying the frequent "excuse me" I hear in a store when someone needs to go by you - and that when there is 3 or more feet clearence.

I am "rude and blunt", I suppose (I know I'm blunt since I speak my mind). At a very young age, after living in Europe (France and Germany), I was told in no uncertain terms by a man in the US that "You're a pushy broad." I took that as a compliment and purposefully never changed my ways.

The tone of the "excuse me" is more unforgivable IMO than the phrase. Some use it quite rudely. I frequently use "excuse me" if someone is actually blocking my path unintentionally, as I am forced at times to use a riding buggy, but always politely and without tone. My mother raised me to be polite and respectful, but to speak my mind as well.

I guess I must be lucky. I have had no software issues with my KV.

About "over-polite" habits, I think it is important to respect the culture that you are in. I am American but my husband is Japanese. The Japanese seem to say the equivalent of "excuse me" even when they are just saying hello. Also in (American) English it is used when you need to interrupt a conversation between people. It is true that tone is important for interpretation but I wouldn't automatically take offense.

I am French, married to a German, my father is English, we live between Germany, Spain and France, used to live in the US a while ago.

Rudest so far ? In a shop, the French. In a restaurant, the Spanish. In the street, the German. In business life, the English.

We are just back from a trip to the States and they were just, as always, adorable.

You sound like a lot of the Americans I meet in Mexico. By god, they're not adapting to a new culture just because they want to live in Mexico. But, I suppose saying you're German as an excuse for being rude is as good as any other excuse.

And your excuse would be...?

Well that was a fun cultural walkabout! Looks like we should get this thread back on topic before things get out of hand.

In the US it's confusing just moving from one part of the country to another.

In New York everyone talking at once is normal conversation. If you try that in the South everyone else stops and stares at your rudeness -- or says sweetly "Bless your heart, I didn't realize you were speaking", which means "Shut up, you ignorant clod".

Well all that slavery and lynching had a civilizing effect on the people.

(Wow I went there.)
