Nor as good as it could be! I didn't track books bought, but for books read I averaged $3.71 in 2010, $2.85 in 2011 and $2.77 so far this year.

But I have tracked the price of ebooks I've bought in 2012: An average of $2.25 so far!

I advise ignoring the pre-orders as far as a purchase resolution goes, and not buying any more ebooks until at least the 1st August. (And no pre-ordering books now that won't come out until after 1st August!)

The deals will come around again, and possibly cheaper. (I somewhat regret my purchase of the Young Wizards ebooks in July last year at just a 15% discount! Although at least there I did really enjoy reading the ones in the series that I hadn't read before.)

Do you count free books when calculating the average, too? I've got a bunch of free books in addition, but I'm not taking them into account for the average cost; if I did, the average would be $1.80 for books acquired this year.

I went a little overboard with free books earlier in the year, when they finally became available for me as actually free on Amazon instead of the $2.30 they would have cost me earlier (with the $2 surcharge + tax on top of that), but I've cut down on free ones considerably lately, getting them only when they were already on my wish list or when they're trad-pubbed and actually sound interesting. I've mostly focused on reading the ones I've paid money for, though.

My averages are for paid books. I don't count free ebooks for most things - not in averages calculation, nor do I add them to my TBR list. I think the only place I count them is in my 'books read' total.

So feel free to collect as many free ebooks as you like - we don't count them in this thread.

Argghh. Three new books. One I don't count against myself - it's the next one in the Kate Shugak series and they're a known and loved quantity. But the two Wen Spencer books it's really hard to justify right now. Not that I won't enjoy them, I'm sure I will. But I really don't need them to add to my TBR, thank you.

I really like Wen Spencer's books. The Tinker series is fine, but I thought that "A Brother's Price" was exceptionally good.

Help I've fallen and I can't stop buying books.
I bought the first in the Bruno, Chief of Police Mysteries. I liked it so much, I bought the other three. I have just started reading book four and plan on getting book five when it is released in August.

I loved A Brothers Price and I'm not sure why. I do llike all of Wen Spencer's books but A Brother's Price is very different, at least to me.

I fell off the wagon a little while back and picked up Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters. I've been good since though. Ten days now.

I've tried very hard to not buy more new books in July but I've still got a handful - all of them Kindle Daily Deals, though, at €0.99 each or so, in series that I'm following anyway (M. C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth - I enjoy them, but don't like to buy the books at full price, as both series are long and individual books are pretty short, never more than half an evening's reading).

Oh, great. Now you've done it. Another one I need to buy. OK, putting it on my Wish List, but I strongly suspect it'll be my next buy.

Sorry! I forgot what thread I was posting in.

I've done pretty well this month – only 2 purchases so far. But I can see another one coming up soon: The New Millennium version of "So You Want To Be A Wizard". I really ought to wait, but I really want to see how the updating has gone.

And I've just noticed that my Asimov's subscription at Fictionwise has finally ended. The question is: Do I wait for the issues to appear (after a long time!) at Fictionwise and then buy them there on a weekend discount, or just get a subscription at Amazon? Ditto for my Analog subscription, which only has three issues left.
