I updated the table for the three devices known that we do not support.
One KV model - unknown details until we get a reply on the above post.

Two models of the PW3-32 in Japan.
Details on the newest one not yet known.

So far, only 3 models out of all the models Amazon ever built.
Not yet time to panic.

Perhaps our KindleTool maintainer will have time to update it during the holidays.

We now have two of the four PW3-32 (Black & White - Wifi only) models identified by users.
There should be two more PW3-32 (Black & White - Wifi+3G) yet to be identified.

It seems that there is no wifi＋3G version on Amazon Japan. Only black or white, with or without advertisement.

There was only Black when the 32GiB device was announced.
There is a place in the model numbering scheme for wifi+3G, so I wrote the post the way I did.

Of course, I am not in charge of model release approval at Amazon.
Nor has anyone posted motherboard pictures (which would tell us if Wifi+3G is possible).

Note: The "Special Offers" feature only effects the price and the behavior, not the device model or firmware version.

Hello. I've been reading through this thread to try to get all of my questions answered, but I do want to clarify a few things. I have a PW3.

In step 7, as it looks now, as long as all of the steps are followed correctly, JB is preserved when updating to the latest firmware. However, we have no way of knowing if this will always hold true, correct? Is it recommended to always block OTA updates, so when the next OTA update comes out, we can wait for someone to verify that JB is preserved after the pushing the next OTA update? Just in case Amazon pushes something that blocks us from JB or something.

In step 8, is there a reason MrPI is listed before KUAL? As I understand from reading each thread, KUAL needs to be installed before MrPI since MrPI is an extension of KUAL, but I'm not sure. "New" and "old" installation methods are also referenced in step 8. Are MrPI and KUAL both "new" installation methods?

Additionally, in the KUAL thread, MKK is listed as a prerequisite. Is this bundled in the current JB/hotfix? I'm assuming yes, since there was no mention of installing MKK in this guide.

In the future, let's assume the next OTA update doesn't remove JB. If I were to manually download and install the latest firmware, what would need to be reinstalled? As I understand, I would have to reinstall MrPI and KUAL, and any hacks I installed using these two installers. Is this correct?

Any and all Amazon image updates over-write the Jailbreak (certificate).

That is automatically re-installed when the new firmware is booted.
I.E: The certificate's installation is viral.
Its a nice, useful, virus, but a virus none the less.

This MrPI is also an extension of the main page search bar.
That is what is 'new' about MrPI.

KUAL is now packaged in both Kindlet and Booklet formats.
The Booklet format must be installed by MrPI which requires MrPI be first.

Okay, I think I'll still block the OTA just in case Amazon somehow pulls some funny business. I can always easily manually install it.

Thanks for clearing up the MrPI/KUAL thing. Seems like the order you install them doesn't matter unless you have a KOA/KT3.

When the next OTA comes out, and I manually install it, I'll have to reinstall MrPI and KUAL, right? Hacks too?

Also, is MKK included in the JB/hotfix?

Big hint to reduce the confusion -
When you read something that seems to contradict what is written in the first post of this thread, check the date of what you are reading.
If it was written prior to the start of this thread, 7/4/16 -
Then you are reading history.

Yes, the contents of MKK are included in the 'hotfix' package.

Yes, you have to re-install the Mobileread after-market add-ins that required installation.
That is, anything distributed in files with the pattern: update_*.bin and that you had to use MrPI to install.
Plus -
If it seems 'broke' after an Amazon update, re-install it.

The only exception to the above is the Jailbreak (certificate) and the contents of the 'hotfix'.
That is, the stuff that bridges the certificate installation across image updates.

Keep in mind:
MrPI is a 'batch mode' installer.
Put everthing update_*.bin into /mrpackages at the same time.
Trigger MrPI.
You are done.

Just what is it that you are trying to achieve?

Since you know in advance that you will be removing the jailbreak -
Since you are so uncertain about how to jailbreak it to begin with -
Why bother?
Just leave it alone, it isn't jail broken now, keep it that way.
