Thank you! Now I'm getting confused about the "Mandatory Flag" and "resource level DRM". What do those distinctions mean?

Mandatory flag says to use the hardened DRM, resource level DRM. To quote Adobe on the resource level DRM: "While packaging books, you have an option to enforce resource level DRM hardening."

That's about it for their public documentation. I think it means protecting the epub at the internal to the zip packaged file level as well as at the package level. In other words, two levels of DRM.

Detailed help on removing DRM is not permitted on MobileRead. I'd suggest two items.

Please read the Download for Linux page carefully and check the calibre forum if you run into issues such as xcb since there can be dependencies that will need to be installed.

One other solution is to setup ADE 2.0.1 and download ePub from kobo and remove the DRM from there.

Obok 7.2.1 didn't work for me. I needed to go back to 7.1.0.

Again, it's better to download ePub and strip the DRM from there. KePub is not a good format to keep as a source format. ePub is.

From the dump:

Quote:
Linux-5.8.0-50-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.29 Linux ('64bit', 'ELF')
('Linux', '5.8.0-50-generic', '#56~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 12 21:46:35 UTC 2021')
So they are using Linux? Is it really better to use ADE with Linux?

And don't say to use Windows.

Use whatever works to get ADE up and running so you can remove the DRM.

Care to give your reasons for this? I mean, a kepub is just an epub with some extra spans in it. As those are easily removed, there should be no reason not to start with the kepub.

Of course, there is a good reason to consider using the epub rather than the kepub, but, it is has nothing to do with "format".
