This play was a very funny read [out loud]. I don't usually like reading plays due to the format. But, with someone reading each part it was much entertainment. And, since it was a play, only took several hours... we started on the way to diner so there was a bit of an intermission.

That sounds like a lot of fun!

what a great idea. i love that play ; i can't read it without laughing (i would have been terrible in your read out loud version), it must have been a really fun way to discover the story.

I wish I could get people in my family to do that!

Last night I started The Three Musketeers by (of course) Alexandre Dumas. I can't believe I've never read this before. It's hysterical. Perhaps it helps that I read Steven Brust's tribute not-quite-parody, The Phoenix Guards, so all the characters seem familiar. (I've never even seen any movies based on the story. Though I have seen some anime in which some characters were loosely based on the Musketeers.)

The version I have is horrible in terms of formatting- straight Project Gutenberg text. I'll have to get a better version from our collection here at MR. (I think I'm safe in assuming that there is one.)

It was actually my son's girlfriends idea. She is a budding thespian and one of her teachers introduced a play (this play I think) to the class this way.

My son (not the one with the girlfriend) is taking his English 4 class online (virtual school they call it) and he had to finish his/an exam by midnight that night and he hadn't read the play (yes he is a typical put it off till the last minute teenager). So, after we were done he took the exam and we were all able to "help" him a bit. (The exam also covered The Freedom Writers and Hamlet).

Believe me, some of us had trouble too. I was laughing like a maniac when they just started and I was only listening mostly to Jack and Algy in the first act. The people at Friday's must have thought I was nuts.

Lady Blackwell's initial interview with Jack is LOL funny fer sure.

Actually, now that we have done it once. I am thinking I want to do it again many more times. Would you all recommend more Oscar Wilde plays?

Actually, what made it pretty awesome was my two sons and my son's girlfriend all have iPod Touches with Stanza installed. So, they all downloaded the play from PG (via WiFi in about 2minutes) to read it from. This is the REASON for copyright expiration and public domain.

(I was surprised that feedbooks didn't have it. Yes, I noticed it is here to but Stanza doesn't easily integrate with mobilread. Unless there is a Stanza feed from MR I am not aware of.)

I read it recently for the first time and I had read Phoenix Guard three times before reading The Three Musketeers for the first time and it was a strange experience. I liked it a lot but I think Steven Brust do the good things better so I will soon re-read his books again.

I saw an interview with Coulter recently. She is a nut case (IMHO). Her views are just way out in left field.
