A new group of free classical music downloads from Alexander Street is now available.
Do you know what this means? It's already been two weeks (nearly--I was a day or two late posting last time) since I posted their last giveaways. When I was growing up, the older people kept telling me that time seems to pass by more quickly the older that you get, and in the last few years I've really begun to feel it! But, back to the business at hand . . . . the downloads this time are selections from Le Carnaval des Animaux (Carnvival of the Animals), by composer Camille Saint-Saens. If "we" have gotten freebies of his work before, I don't remember it, so I am looking forward to listening to all of the free pieces (I've started listening to them already) of his works that Alexander Street is providing now. For the benefit of those who are true students of classical music (that leaves me out) and might be familiar with some or all of his compositions. I'm going to give, here, the five pieces that we can get free now: - IV. Tortues (Tortoise) - V. Élephant (Elephant) - VI. Kangourous (Kangaroos) - X. Volière (Aviary) - XIII. Cygne (Swan) Even if you don't recognize the name of the composer, or even the name of the song, when you listen to the last piece, you'll immediately recognize it--it is a very popular classical work. A couple of advisories . . . . two or three of the pieces are very short. All of the pieces have a few seconds of narration added at the end. I would tell you what they're about, but alas, they are in French (I had three years of it, but it has been so long ago, and I didn't ever review it or use it that about all that I can do now is to pronounce the names of the items on a menu in a French restaurant). Here, again, is the process in order to download one or more of the free pieces. Log in to AlexanderStreet, if you're not already. Once you're logged in, you should see a blue button on this webpage, that says "Download," at the bottom righthand corner of Camille Sain-Saens' photo. Click on it. The webpage that comes up will have a list of all of the available free pieces. Download the ones that you want! I was very familiar with XIII. Cygne (Swan), but not the other pieces. I enjoyed all of them very much. I just wish that some of them hadn't been so short! Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 12-22-2016 at 08:47 PM. |

After burning the midnight (rather, the 1-2 a.m. Eastern Time) oil several times, I think that I can definitely say that the YourClassical new freebie of the day always shows up between 1 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Today's free MP3 download from them is a piece from an album that apparently includes both Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker (we seem not to get any of that) and a piece by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov called Christmas Eve: Polonaise. The album cover states that Prunella Scales does the narration, but in context, it appears to be only speaking of The Nutcracker portion. In addition to some music, there is talking ("narration") on this 3 minute, 25 second piece, too. In fact, there seems to be almost more talking on this piece than there is music. I suppose that it is done by the aforementioned Prunella Scales. Personally, I could have done without that. If you're interested in exploring all of the in's and out's of the album, I suggest that you go to Naxos' dedicated webpage for the album and have a look around. Before I forget it, let me mention that the free piece, at least is performed by the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. Igor Golovschin is the conductor. Stream the free piece at this webpage. Download it from there, as well, by clicking on the "Direct MP3 download link." With this being Friday's freebie from YourClassical, we won't get another one from them until next Monday between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. For some reason, I get the idea that the free piece on that day won't be Christmasy like the ones that we've had the last several weeks . . . . Goodnight. Moved to correct thread ~ Editor Last edited by Blossom; 12-23-2016 at 03:28 PM. |

Please note: While onsite pricing will not reflect your discount, your order history will show the promotional credit applied. I hate not knowing how much I paid until after I've already paid. That should be illegal. |

Now how it could be done in some states, but not others seems to be a problem. But, likely zip codes do not cross state lines, so if you are in one of the zip code in a permitted state, they'll do it; but if you're in a zip code in a state where it is not permitted, they won't. That's my best guess. But, I've got to believe that it's illegal in one or more states. It might even be illegal within certain liberal, progressive cities which have tough consumer protection laws. |

For today, YourClassical is offering Johannes Brahm's Violin Sonata No. 3: II. Adagio as a free MP3 download.
The free Christmasy songs from YourClassical appear to be over until the next holiday season. This rendition of Violin Sonata No. 3: II. Adagio comes from a Paladino Music album, fittingly enough called Johannes Brahms - Horn Trio. Violin Sonatas. The music on the album from which this piece comes is described, on the Naxos dedicated webpage for the album, as being Chamber Music, from the Romantic period. On the blurb on YourClassical's dedicated webpage for the album, Bojidara Kouzmanova-Vladar is credited with the violin perfomance and Magda Amara is credited with the piano part. Additionally, Wolfgang Vladar appears in the credits--and at the top of the list--on the album cover. However; neither the YourClassical webpage for the album nor the dedicated webpage for the album, from Naxos, appear to give any real additional information about his part. There is this guy in the foreground on the album cover, though, holding a French horn (I think that that is what it is), and I suspect that he is probably Mr. Vladar. But, back to the particular piece from the album that we can get free . . . . this rendition of Violin Sonata No. 3: II. Adagio runs 4 minutes, 5 seconds long. Follow the same procedure as you always do in order to download the freebie: Click on "Direct MP3 download link" on the YourClassical webpage for the free piece. The download to your default drive or default wherever will begin immediately. My quick take on the free piece: There is nothing exceptional that makes the piece stand out from other classical pieces. As expected, the piano and violin are prominent. The violin is not overwhelming, which highly pleases me. A fine piece, all in all. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 12-26-2016 at 01:36 PM. |

Today's YourClassical free piece is from an album performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. Alfred Walter is the conductor.
The album is produced/published by Naxos, and is entitled Spohr - Symphonies No. 4. I had not heard of composer Louis Spohr before, so I was looking forward to hearing this free piece from him. Reading part of the Naxos dedicated webpage for the album, it was interesting to note that Spohr was a friend of Beethoven's. That information also puts a date on Louis Spohr and his work, for those who are familiar enough with classical music or Beethoven to know the period of time in which he lived and did his work. BTW--there is quite a bit of additional interesting and helpful information on that webpage about the album. The particular piece that we can get free from the album is Jessonda: Overture. It is a 7 minute, 35 minute piece, as performed for this album. As with all of YourClassical's freebies, this one, too, is formatted in MP3. I found it to be a pleasant piece, somewhat musically complex, and free of a great range in high and low volume (a characteristic that I like in a classical piece, personally). Follow the "Direct MP3 download link" on YourClassical's dedicated webpage for the piece, in order to download the free piece. Alternatively, or prior to downloading the piece, there is a feature, which is plain to see, on that same webpage, which you can use to also stream the piece. FREE Video of the Building by Answers in Genesis of a Replica of "Noah's" Ark.
The subject line in my email inbox called this a free Christmas gift. Well, I guess that you could say that I'm a little late opening my Christmas present--I'm just now getting around to opening the message. This offer does end today, December 28.
The present is a free video download of The Building of the Ark Encounter, courtesy of the organization Answers in Genesis. I think that this offer is available to anyone. You might be required to set up an account; I doubt, however, that you will be required to receive emails from them if you wish to opt out from that. Maybe most of you have at least heard of the project by AIG to build a replica of "Noah's" ark. Well, it was finished recently (FYI--in a southern suburb of Cincinnati, called Petersburg I think, across the Ohio drainage ditch (River), in Kentucky. Someone may be offended that I'm posting this religious-related giveaway on a generic Media Deals thread. Two responses: one, the Christian Interest thread may be reserved for ebooks (I dunno). Second, even if you are not interested in the religious aspect of the boat, you may very well be fascinated by the information about the construction of this replica of the ark. To get the free video, try pointing your web browser to this website. Follow the prompts. A problem that I ran into was in checkout. It will say at one point that code AEGIFT16 was applied. When I got to the final page of checkout, I was still prompted to pay $7.99. I went back to the webpage in checkout where it said that the code had been applied, and then I manually did it anyway. Bada bing, bada boom!--that did the trick. Result: a free video ready for my downloading. I haven't had a chance to view the download (see the first paragraph of this post), so I don't know about the length of the video, and I didn't see any information about it anywhere that I looked on Answers in Genesis' website, either. But, hey, it's free. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 12-28-2016 at 01:54 AM. |

I am always eager to learn of the day's free classical music download from YourClassical. How about you?
As with yesterday's freebie, I didn't recognize the name of the composer (remember that I have pointed out several times that I know almost nothing about classical music) of the free piece today, either. Today it is Sergey Ivanovich Taneyev. Naxos is the publisher of the album from which the free piece comes. The name of the album, according to its cover, is Sergey Ivanovich Taneyev - Complete String Quartets - 5. The piece from the album that we entitled to receive free is String Quartet No. 8: IV. Finale. Find out much more about the album at this Naxos webpage. A couple of things that you will learn from YourClassical's dedicated webpage for the freebie is that the album is performed by a group called Carpe Diem String Quartet. James Buswell plays the viola. Wanna take a listen? You can stream it from this webpage. You can also download the 8 minute, 5 second MP3 piece from that webpage also. To download it, you need to click on the "Direct MP3 download link." I found the piece to be pleasant to listen to. Coincidentally, it reminds me of yesterday's freebie in some ways: it is somewhat musically complex, and it free of a great range in high and low volume (a characteristic that I like in a classical piece, personally). The viola element is pretty strong--but not to the point of being annoying to me, a person who does not care for the instrument. The piece certainly belongs in a playlist that you might want to assemble of some nice classical pieces that are less well known than many out there. |
