It's raining heavily and thundering lightly outside out the moment. We have thunderstorm warnings in effect again, and news that a tornado has touched down in Southampton County in Capron. A good day to communicate via Tapatalk, as once again our computers have been shut down because of a storm.

The thunder and lightning has stopped, but it's still raining lightly. My grandson has turned his PlayStation back on, but his more cautious papaw is still Tapatalking on his iPad.

Lightning hit a tree on the property we were renting (for just a week) more than a half hour after the storm seemed to have passed over us and moved on. I might become more caution myself, after that!

I think a tornado came through Virginia Beach. It isn't official, but some said they heard what sounded like a freight train coming through. Power lines and trees have been laid down, and a church steeple was torn off. There are a number of injuries, but no serious injuries have been reported. A couple of fellows on the news now clams they saw the funnel cloud. There's no doubt in their minds there was a tornado there this afternoon. Norfolk is flooded, there was another tornado in Capron, but here in Chesapeake things don't look so bad.

Like I said, most of the storms seem to be focusing their wrath on our surrounding cities. Last I heard, the tornado in Virginia Beach had still to be confirmed, but the reporters were sounding like it was pretty likely. One family lost the upper half of their house, though they escaped injury, and of the folks that have been sent to the hospital, none of the injuries are life threatening, although two people were reported in critical condition.

Y'all stay safe up there in the triangle. I am looking at the radar and it seems to have sideswiped us from the south and we're getting nothing to the north. But it looks like you're getting hammered.

Lots of rain, a little thunder, but [so far] the bad stuff is sliding by just to the east of us ....on its way to annihilate Tom in Virginia!

Cooling off a bit. We've got some distant thunder, but there's nothing on the radar and no rain predicted until Sunday, maybe.

Now, if the humidity would only drop a bit, that would be good!

It's gorgeous winter weather here. Bit stormy a few days ago (a roof off and a fence down here or there, we lost a small light pole); but now it's sunny, cool, & crisp.

Things are quiet here for now, though there might be some overnight activity. The forecasters still haven't decided if what hit Virginia Beach earlier was a tornado or whether it was wind shear. One video of a funnel cloud did turn up, but it was unclear from the video if what was filmed made it all the way to the ground. One of my nieces in Portsmouth wrote on Facebook earlier today that she had left her house to go to work and after an hour had not made it out of Portsmouth because of all the flooded streets. All in all a good day to be retired.

During the night we had a thunderstorm. Not the usual lightning followed by thunder but a constant flashing and rumbling, with one loud crack as lightning struck the nearby church tower.

Today promises to be the same as yesterday, temperatures of around 27C and muggy, currently humidity is 89%, followed by localized thunderstorms.

Seattle is supposed to get to around 90F (32C) for the next four to five days. I hate temps higher than 80F (27C). My ideal temp is around 70F (21C). I'll be glad when the rainy season begins.
