Question... I finally convinced myself to do the screensaver hack with the justification that I'm more likely to lose my Kindle on my upcoming trip than to break it, and besides, Amazon seems quite lenient in their warranty policies (the tipping point was seeing an official post on their site about the k2 saying that they wouldn't invalidate warranties for screensaver changes). Anyhow, I created a nice set of images w/ contact information on the image using gimp and they all worked great... then later today I decided to make a few more, but none of those work! They're all 600x800, indexed gif with the same custom Kindle palette as the others... yet, no matter what I try they still won't load, it just skips right past them and loads the others... I've tried: - full wipe of the screensaver folder, disconnect, confirm blank screen on sleep, restore images - save as PNG in case something was messed up in the gif file - checked all image properties and compared to a stock image (did find that the ppi was 72.002, but fixing that didn't solve it) Any ideas about what I might be missing? I might try copying a stock image and then pasting into that to see if that fixes it, but I'm sick of it right now. :-) |

Did you do a full restart of your Kindle after adding the new images? Not just putting it to sleep and turning it back on but a full restart.

Help, I used the screensaver hack for my Kindle 3 and it worked wonderfully. But now I have to return my Kindle for replacement and need to uninstall the hack. I put the uninstall bin in the root directory but the update button is grayed out. I have a couple days to return the device and am really desperate to restore it to "factory" settings. Please help as maybe I've missed something??? Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah, forgot to mention that... also put a reboot file in the folder to cause it to reset...

Strangely, one more restart solved the problem (though didn't solve the problem on poor dithering on one image that I hadn't noticed before saving it)... I'm not sure why the previous ones didn't... thanks...

Yes, I know what you mean about dithering. I have two different export presets in Photoshop - both are PNG - but one uses diffusion dithering, which I think looks better and the other uses pattern dithering. I use that one for any image with significant gradients in it.

				Brick?

Did I possibly brick? I am quite used to hacking phones and such, and this does not appear totally bricked. I did the kindle 3 g wifi (to my k3w) hack and it all seemed ok going through the update, but then got stuck on the please press the on key to start. It would do nothing. I eventually held it and got a blank screen. I eventually plugged it in. The computer recognizes it and the usb screen even comes on, but afterwards nothing still. Is this bricked? As in send to Amazon. Not overly worried tbh, but I would rather avoid being w/out the kindle for a few weeks. Thx! Last edited by seanowns; 12-30-2010 at 08:44 AM. |

This was the "new" method (Summer '10) for resetting Kindles... not sure if it applies to the K3 or not, but it can't hurt at this point, right? 1. Slide the power button over to the right for 15 seconds, 2. let go of the power button, 3. Immediately press and hold down the "Home" button until it restarts. |

Ahhhh thanks! The 15 second reboot along with a freshly downloaded firmware being placed into the root directory fixed the problem. The Kindle eventually ran through a full update again, and this time worked. I appreciate the help. I was also able to install the font hacks now |

Hello, everyone, have wonderful and happy new year. ur, First, I have zero intention of pressure whatsoever, just curious. SSTimeOut v0.03.N has been gone for quite some time, would it come back any time soon? Of course, it feels like it was just yesterday to me, I hardly noticed its absence at all Praise to this great thread! |
