Hey, I'd be willing to help put it together.

As far as the charity part, it doesn't have to be a big ordeal. One thing I have seen before that seemed to work is that you could have a paypal account for it, and for everyone who donates would receive a copy. People name their price. Given the level of quality that most MobileRead books are, I no doubt believe that we couldn't have a great book put together.

As far as pictures go, one thing I've seen in many cook books is that they'll have "signature" dishes that they put the spotlight on, and only those get the photos taken of. This reduces the amount of photos to be taken of, and thus speeding up the amount of time to get that part done (also reduce the cost to who decides to do the photography.

I'd say 'good' means NOT a recipe that calls for a can of Campbell's Chunky Soup over rice... (My ex-wife's idea of Gourmet) or any recipe that uses Velveeta cheese, or can be found in a school cafeteria lunch room.

The cook sensitivity.
These are things that who needs to know, is better off learning by her/himself.

Actually, from time to time some comfort recipes pop up in this thread that I would not touch with a ten foot pole but that warm my heart, and obviously fill the belly of the cook.

Let me share some ideas that I got on this.

We have the full recipes collection on this thread already. In a very spontaneous form, that has its own usefulness and charm.

The only real need is a reference table, so that one can have an overall view. That could be in a document posted in the E-Book Uploads forum. Or preliminarily, as a txt file in its own thread. With links to the original posts.
With this done you could get feedback and help by us.

This already is a big editing job, but feasible.

Yep. I agree. We're very diverse here, and don't all like the same things. I'm pretty sure it would be wrong to judge what other people are cooking, particularly if we're doing this for fun. I say throw it all out there -- most of us are perfectly capable of choosing recipes to try that we think we would like.

Honey Roasted Canned Spam - reduced salt, (diamond slit with little cloves pressed in,) Canned peas & carrots, and Instant mashed potatoes. 'Wonderbread' and margarine.

For dessert, a Lime Green Jello mold with petite marshmallows,

I'll say no more....

Actually, truth be told, I love a fried Spam sandwich with raw onion and Deli mustard on Rye... But health-wise, we might as well just have a slab of fat with a thick layer of salt on it!

Did you know, Spam is the national food of Hawaii? They sell Spam sushi!
And more Spam is consumed by the folks living in Micronesia that anywhere else? When we go to Guam, Saipan, or Truk, we find Spam cookbooks being sold right next to the cash registers in the supermarkets! "101 Best Spam Dishes" or something along those lines.

More seriously, I think the basis of good food is good quality ingredients, preferably fresh, put together with some care and thought to the flavours, the taste and the eating experience. Canned, instant and ready-made food score low on all points. Indeed, such things are not food, but "food" products.

It reminds me... in my innocent youth long ago, I made some kind of casserole with spam. As far as I remember, it was a very starchy sauce - flavoured with... spam? It was a sort exotic thing. We always got fresh whole food at home (boiled and boring), so anything canned was a novelty.
