Judging by my willingness to re-watch, I'd say my favorite series is the Itchy Boots travel vlog on YouTube. This is a Dutch explorer who uses a smallish motorcycle and modern technology to share her solo journeys through areas of the planet I never thought I'd see. With courage and grace, she is a one women production company that is putting the mega media corporations to shame. Her on air personality is charming and uplifting. Her terrestrial camera skill is excellent; drone camera work is stunning; video editing is outstanding and music editing is sublime.

Enjoying Bertie Carvel as the new Dalgliesh. They're doing a book in 2 45 min. episodes which seems skimpy but I suppose a reasonable compromise to appeal to a more general audience...

We did watch that Netflix thing, with the different timeframes, you watch the "show" in whatever order you want, about a heist. Can't think of the name now (sorry). I thought it started out pretty good but I really lost interest by the penultimate episode and I was completely turned off by the last. YMMV. Tried Bass Reeves and I'm very very undecided. Feels a bit...well. Again, YMMV. I think it's one of those "try it yourself" things. In desperation, I've been late-night (insomnia) rewatching ye olden Poltergeist:the Legacy which is almost now moer comedic. Between the incredibly bad Atari-esque special effects and the HORRIBLE acting by Helen Shaver (and the endlessly tedious focus on her character's "daughter," of course named KAT, ffs...) it's just...I have to be half-asleep to survive it. Oh, watched (partly) the movie 355, (or 335? Can't remember) which is an all-girl revue of would-be action-adventure girl assassin/spy stars. If you want to watch a movie in which no men feature, other than as victims, or bad guys, and see a bunch of 85-lb. soaking-wet women throw grown men around like ragdolls, you might like it. I'm so sick of the fact that it takes an act of God to find anything on Netflix, etc. that has even a BALANCED cast (meaning women AND men) or Brit Detective/Cop shows in which every. single. boss. isn't a woman, or, or, or that I'm halfway or more toward just turning off all our subscriptions and sticking with books-only for the next 10 years. Maybe by then, Hollyweird will be over all its latest crazes. The strike hasn't helped anything either. sigh. Hitch |

Watched Roadkill - with Hugh Laurie - sort of House of Cards compressed into 4 episodes - with one episode largely wasted by (@Hitch!) a whining girl child unhappy with daddy issues - the tempo of episode 4 was unreal. But it was well plotted and Laurie was well cast. There was an obvious set up for a second season, but alas ...

I watched the 4 episodes released so far of The Crown (season 6) in one night. Tonight I watched the final episodes of current season of Hotel Portofino and World on Fire.

Season 5 of Fargo now streaming on FX/Hulu - insane, but logical, plotting; characters with a capital C; Jennifer Jason Leigh channeling Michelle Pfeiffer as the cold bitch matriarch; constant violence - all with that haunting soundtrack and fabulous accents - truly a unique creation

I watched All the Light We Cannot See on Netflix. It's good to OK, but not as good as the book, which I read about 7 years ago. Caught up on Gilded Age episodes on Max.
Been watching a lot of You/Tube livestreams by people in New York City that I follow regularly, as well as a few in London (Christmas parts of department stores). |

Season 7 of "Rick and Morty". I'm a sucker for the creatively insane ideas.

Binged 4 seasons of London Kills on Acorn - police procedural with deeply flawed characters.
Interesting transformation of the character's appearance played by Sharon Small - she appears younger each season - from a 50+ woman in Season 1 with obvious facial wrinkles and heavy white powder makeup to a ruddy glowing smooth faced character with styled blonde hair and a lot of chin/neck plastic surgery by Season 4. |

We watched Backwoods Crime (Austria) on Prime - hit & miss anthology but refreshingly different.if nothing else. Homicide Hills (German) on Prime was also OK. Just finished S1-2 of Whitstable Pearl, more soap opera than mystery but likeable characters. |

And agree - Small was the real reason to watch the Lynley series - she made Havers a real living character. |

BUT, I felt that S2 was a total loss, really; all about broken hearts, unfulfilled longings, him acting a prat about her being the "detective" after all these years, yadda. I'm reasonably sure that I slept through a good 50-70% of it (S2). I just...yup, thought it sucked. I've also pretty much given up on One Lane Bridge (KIWI). Season One was fairly good, (lovely scenery, too!) although flawed in plot and characterization. Season Two...harder to stick with, more oddball plot flaws and all that. Now S3 seems to be to be just unwatchable. I'm going to try one more episode but...it's incongruent, it doesn't make sense...and I'm still searching for one lousy character to really LIKE. The original lead, whom I did like in S1, has, IMHO, just turned into a jerk. Anybody else feel that way? And of course, we just HADDA HAVE the ubiquitous "new woman boss," who is both a minority and a woman. sigh. Never ends. Anybody watched the new Shetland (S8) yet, which I'm given to understand has a new main character DCI or whatever? Is it a woman? Lemme guess...yes, right? Hitch |
