Sigh .... weather in NC is like being on a roller coaster - WITHOUT a safety belt!

Last week: near blizzard conditions on Wednesday, more snow on Thursday & Friday.
This was the 'finale' to 2 months of record breaking cold fronts motoring weekly through the state.

It's still February .... but ... temps today rising into the 60's F, into the 70's F tomorrow (snow is still on the ground!), with dangerous/deadly thunderstorms or tornadoes on Friday - when the NEXT cold front motors through the state.

STOP PRESSING THE REPLAY BUTTON!

Three more inches of snow up here, last night.

It's above freezing now, with temps due to rise through the week. Hopefully, it will get warm enough to melt the ice pad my minivan is stuck on!

The sun is actually shining and the temp is 51° F. The yard is still a swamp, though, with mud and puddles everywhere. Looks like the harsh winter killed off quite a bit of my grass.

Actually we are having a very soft winter over here, with temperatures around 10°C. Usually at this time of the year, temperatures tend to be below zero. We have a lot of rain though.

Woken up at 4 am by thunderstorm .... rained all morning ... high temp to be 71 F! Just a week ago I was trying to drive home in a snowstorm ....
There's still a few snow boulders left at the sides of some roads from the plows ....

Freezing rain, then just plain old rain. Temperature got to the mid-forties.

Really, all that has happened is the snow out there got more dense and developed a thick layer of ice on top.

And the minivan is still stuck.

It's 48 degrees here, and the ice is melting slo-ooo-ow-leeee.

It's just as well. The last estimate I heard was that our snow and ice cover is the equivalent of 4 to 5 inches of water, so melting slowly is probably a good thing.

But as of last night the minivan was still stuck on the ice. I'll go out with a shovel and try to dig it out some more in a while.

That's the worst thing about snow. It's pretty, but it leaves such a mess in its wake. My backyard is still a swamp.
