Has anybody read the fineprint? As I understand, you only get the coupon when the referred person makes the first purchase.

That is correct. The friend who referred me did not get a coupon, but I used my existing account, so technically it wasn't a first purchase. She's good with that as she doesn't buy many books there and didn't have anything specific on her wishlist.

I've been able to use a few codes (thanks to those who referred me!), but I'm getting confused about this contest.

Can we get useable codes for multiple referrals to the same email, or do we have to use new emails and open new Kobo accounts to use each code? (Meaning there would be no point in asking someone to refer the email associated with my current Kobo account???)

I've gotten and used a few codes, but have lost track of how I got them!

I don't know why the kobo site hates my kobo account email address ...
Tried multiple browsers, tried referring different emails, but always get an error message "Oops, something went wrong. Please try again later. Error: sending user ID doesn't match any records" even when I pre-login to said account. Really can't understand why my kobo account " doesn't match their records"... it did when they sent me the email. Guess I'll take someone up on their offer and be the refer-ee.

I have no problem acquiring the 90% codes. I use my dummy contest accounts. These accounts are not real email addresses. Although they are registered in the contest, there is not KOBO purchasing account associated with it. I have been able to use these fake addresses to send 90% referral codes to both my of my real email accounts. I did this 7 times successfully.

The problem is I have only been able to use one code in each of my 2 kobo accounts. I am going to hold onto my codes until tomorrow at least. I'm hoping that maybe you can only use one a day? I have no reason to to think this, just hoping it could happen.

Let us know! We know the code doesn't have to be used with the Kobo account it was recommended for. We don't know whether the same code can be used multiple times in different accounts, or it expires after one use like a contest code. Has anyone tried this?

I have not managed to receive any codes. I tried sending from my main account as well as the contest account I set up from my mom. I tried sending to various emails plus using different browsers (on PC and my tablet). Oh well.

It may be shutting down. I sent codes yesterday to people and got one for myself. Today I sent codes to a couple more friends and they also tried sending and so far no one has gotten any codes today.

I used one of the 90% codes I got from cross-referring between my two accounts, but never got a return code. I'm not going to use the other code, so I'll post the both codes and someone can try them (I don't remember which one I used

Yeah, I didn't PM you back right away, giving the email a chance to arrive, but it hasn't. So I don't know why yours aren't working today.

However, using the advice from Susan A and an email address that I registered for the contest, but which has no kobo account linked to it, I successfully referred to another email address, also without a Kobo account.

That really shouldn't work, but it did.
And I got a 20$ book for 2$! Yipee!

I got lots of referrals (thanks everyone!) and lots of codes, but only the first one worked on my account.

'only' that still means I paid £1.62 for a book that's still in hardback, instead of the £9.50 or so it would be at Amazon! Good times.

I haven't received any codes back from the referrals I've made. I suspect you might only get a cod back for genuinely new customers.
