Mate, and toasts with Dulce de Leche.
Has anyone here tryed Dulce de leche? (the english for "dulce de leche" would be something like "caramel milk" or something like that; its heated milk with sugar; its really sweet and has the texture of something in between "peanut butter" and "honey") |

Condensed Milk! I used to live for that stuff, but haven't tried it for years. I wish Rainmaker had never mentioned it...

![]() It used to be on my top 5 favourites till age of 18 I think. We could not buy it anywhere. My dad used to get 10-11 tins per year through some odd ways and I was allowed to open one every 5-6 weeks, because some of it went for cooking...I loved it so much! One of my posh classmates had them in plenty and I remember envying him, because he would just make two holes in the top of the tin and drink it like water....I could have only a few tsps per day ![]() Oh, childhood... I guess ![]() |

![]() And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair Ah! I hear the sound of a gentle word On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air I'm pickin' up good vibrations She's givin' me the excitations I'm pickin' up good vibrations (Good, good, good, good vibrations) She's givin' me the excitations (Good, good, good, excitations) Good, good, good, good vibrations ![]() ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCeD_...eature=related ) Happy Tuesday, everyone! It's a good day to be alive! Good, good, good, good vibrations! Today begins with a mug of Taylors of Harrogate's Yorkshire Tea, a bowl of miso soup, rice, and tsukemono, but (and don't tell my wife) I think I'd rather have croissants today. But I've now lost 5.5 kilo so I guess passing on the pastry is a good thing. ProfCrash's post about shaded tea is prompting me to go out and see if I can get some nice photos of this year's gardens. All too often the growers use really UGLY shading stuff and I've never really gotten a picture I like of the shaded plantations. Perhaps I should just shade the surviving twin and photograph her... Hmmm. Sweetened condensed milk? It was always in our cupboard because my mother made pies that used it, but I don't think I ever saw anybody drink it. I don't think I've ever even tasted it, except when used in pies or other desserts. Anybody else who grew up in the U.S. have the same experience?
(Of course, I was too busy eating what my father told me were "cinnamon rolls" -- margarine spread on white bread which was then sprinkled with sugar and rolled up. No cinnamon in it at all. ![]() |

In roadside reststop restaurants in S.E.Asia, the workers prep for the busses by half filling glasses with sweetened condensed milk so when the busses unload for their quick breaks, customers just say 'coffee' or 'tea' and the workers grab a glass and pour in the requested drink. EVERYBODY drank it that way, and it was difficult to get the workers to understand that I wanted my tea without any! They looked at me like I had two heads! Stitchawl |

And the idea of condensed milk used in beverages to you Westerners is just as strange/weird/odd as using whipped cream / steamed milk in coffee and tea to us Asians ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Tasting it only made you 'think' it was good. That's called 'Remote Brainwashing.' WPP Western Peer Pressure. The Brits tried that on us Colonials in the 1750's but we fought it off. ![]() It was the French who did it to your country. ![]() Stitchawl |
