Library books don't count, right? (Downloaded 2 yesterday.)

An Amazon daily deal on a book by an author new to me sent me $0.99 over my $20/month budget. It's only a dollar...

Library books don't count.

But going over budget certainly does. And we're not even half way through May yet!

Agreed. Library books don't count (good thing!) but budget's do. So, the best thing is to not have a budget??

Seriously, I was doing OK, but then a planned purchase (C. J. Cherryh's Foreigner Series #12) turned into two purchases (realized I'd completely missed #11), and that put me back in the hole. OTOH, I'm enjoying Deceiver (#11) a great deal, I really like this series, and it was a reasonable price, so not too bad.

Well, I did look into the regular price of the book and whether or not this might turn into a series I would enjoy, and it turned out to be a huge savings ($0.99, which was 89% off the regular price.) I'll admit, though, that I acted on impulse. Usually I check my library first to see if the book is available there. But for a buck, I took the easy/lazy way out. So much for self discipline.

Actually, though, I imposed the budget because there is another series I want that discount codes can't be used to purchase, it's not available at the library, and I really want the books and they're $10.99 each at the lowest price. (And it really bugs me paying more than $10 for an ebook.) Before I purchased the first one, I decided on a monthly budget limit and the purchase of book #1 took me up to that limit. I've finished that one and I will make myself wait for books #2 and #3, with a lot to read in the meantime.

I thought of upping the budget to $25/month, lol!

Yeah, I'm soooooo bad. If I could stay off the internet for the rest of the month...

Thing is, I come to this board or go to goodreads and I get these ideas...

Edited to add: My library didn't have anything by the author whose book I purchased this morning, so I feel slightly less guilty.

Who's the person who put that link to the Amazon daily deal in their signature?

It's been several days since my last purchase, and I still have nearly $A20 left on my gift card. The trouble is that there are about four books on my list and I'll only be able to get two of them, so I'm holding off in the hope that somehow this will help to resolve which ones I shall choose. (I don't know how that's going to work either!)

Congratulations on your Kindle Fire, wyndslash. I love mine.

Well, I seem to be doing well in not purchasing yet this year and only a little less than 2 months to go on my 6 month goal of not purchasing anything.

The problem is that I have become a super collector of freebies and my TBR pile has quadrupled and it requires time to file them.

So that was the cons.

The pros are that whenever I want to read something, I just open up and try a few until something catches my attention. If something is really bad, I just delete without guilt that I have spent any money on it. I have also discovered some good books and other genres I may not have tried before.

OK. I'm having a bit of trouble, as I have a $50 GC still waiting for me to spend at Sony and I am dying to just spend it.

thanks i'm really enjoying it i think i'm just a little disappointed with how badly the magazine layout is in the fire (i'm talking about the mags that show up on the newsstand, not the interactive mag apps. those are fine). i also love browsing the kindle store on the fire :P

I think all I did was play with it for the first 3 weeks and didn't read one book.

Games, movies, internet searches, etc. then I became tired of playing with it and just wanted to read. I put mantano on so I could read some of my epubs and now I can read either, which I like. I like the Carousel to spin the book covers and I can choose what to download.

Oh, I also loaded lots of pictures to share with my co-workers as we can't have phones out, but no restriction on the Fire.

I know I have enough books on there to keep me happy and not wanting to purchase for a while longer. I may even try not to buy for a few more months, then I can justify getting a new device when the end of year new ones come out.

oh, i like to use my kindle keyboard to read text novels less eye-strain. but when i was given my Fire, i did get the realization that i could finally read color mags and illustrated novels and such on it. i hope they'll improve the magazine layout in the near future

yes, i was gifted with a year's subscription to that, so i downloaded the app i'm just wondering if i could still access my purchased magazines even after my subscription has ended. i would download them to my KF, but the space there is so frustratingly limited.

You should be able to. On the app, it shows the items as "purchased", even if you delete it from the Fire.
