I am reading Some Golden Harbor by David Drake. Not your typical David Drake Military Science Fiction. Each book in the series is based on classical conflicts from antiquity, usually those documented by Ancient Greek historians, though also including Ancient Roman ones. The books give the feel of Elizabethan England going to the stars.

Hopefully I will be able to pare my reading down this week and come back fresh next week with only one book being read for pleasure reading.
And have you read Percepliquis?

And in it she shows how well she can write a story. Excellent. Very nicely done indeed. I couldn't put it down, even though I knew the plot.

Next: The Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings

A stand-alone fantasy novel that I bought in a fictionwise sale all the way back in May 2009, so it's about time I read it. I did like their first Belgariad series, so I hope I enjoy this long tome. (791 pages in paperback!)

Finished John Steinbeck's Cannery Row. Awesome. Read this book. The only problem is I have so many books already on my required list for this year and now I want to read more Steinbeck.

Now I'm on to Markus Zusak's The Book Thief. I've heard good and some bad (but mostly good) things about this one. I did really enjoy I Am the Messenger previously.

There's an interesting publication history concerning And Then There Were None that is briefly covered here. I think it's a great story.

Some seem to have found it boring and on the pretentious side. So far, I'd say no. If you want to read boring and pretentious, try...I'm not going there as the Classics lovers might maul me.

Love the RCN series. Picked up the first three from the Baen Free Library and then discovered that they're also available from The Fifth Imperium as the "When the Tide Rises" CD.

They were originally inspired by the Aubrey–Maturin novels (Master and Commander, Post Captain, H.M.S. Surprise, etc), but he indeed uses historical battles to frame his stories

I think I'm going to have to leave this one for a while. It's just not working for me. Meanwhile, I finished Quiet Magic by Steve Miller and Sharon Lee. This is a collection of three stories previously published but long not available. None are in the Liaden Universe. All were good, but I really liked the 2nd and 3rd best. Both had that quirky something that makes a short story work for me.

Next up: Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I'm somewhat reluctant, since I had a bad experience with the first Robin Hobb I tried to read, but others have suggested that this, her first book, is worth the read. So, we'll try it. If I don't like it, it's clear that I can just drop her off my list entirely.

I'm still working on Down the Mysterly River by Bill Willingham. It is a good book and am 54% through. I'm looking forward to finishing it. I'm at a pretty good bit now where things are starting to be explained. I love what the "eggman's" eggs really are.

Willingham is obviously used to writing for graphic novels. It showed in his other novel, Peter and Max. His prose style is a little simplistic (don't know if that is the right word) for a novel but I still enjoy the novel (and a 1/2) I have read of his as well as Fables.

I just finished reading Magic Slays and I enjoyed it a lot. I've decided that Kate Daniels is pretty close to Harry Dresden in her inability to keep her mouth shut when agitated. Though Harry wins in the quality snarky remark department, Kate's a close second. Perhaps that's the reason that I like the series? Anyway, I'm now starting to read the 2nd novel in the II AM Trilogy, Blood Hunt by Christopher Buecheler.
