It can't boot even after a battery pull. I'd like to try a new SD image for it.

That the frontlight is coming on suggest the device is booting to at least the point where the dancing square/circles should be displayed. That the screen is not updated suggests it is damaged or disconnected. For the latter, check the cable has not been unplugged or damaged while you were changing the card.

If the screen is damaged, you will see lines on the screen. Though, they can be easier to see when looking at the back of the screen. There are also plenty of pictures of broken e-ink screens on this forum and the web in general to compare.

Pressing the reset button is only useful if the device is hung. It does not trigger a factory reset or anything like that. For the Glo HD, this is done by the last set of instructions on https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kobo_Reset:_Glo_HD. Try that and see what happens.

If it is an issue with the screen, it might be booting to the setup. You might be able to work out where on the screen to tap to get it to connect to the PC and see it. Unfortunately, I don't know for sure where they are for the Glo HD. I don't remember the style of its setup screen after a factory reset.

Thanks a lot Davidfor, but i am sad because my kobo even with a new sd card does not work. when I push on power, the led became red and stay red (doesn't flash) and the screen stay "off".
is it possible that the failure is material ? which part then?

Have you charged it? The power light coming on and turning off after a few seconds without anything else happening can be a sign that the battery is flat. Other possibilities it that the SD card is not seated, or the image writing was not done correctly and the device cannot find the boot image.

yes, the battery is charged that does not come from there. the sd card is good (reflashed and rechecked with mini tools partition). resetting with a paperclip next to the usb socket does not work. in short: the e-reader does not boot: it does not have access to the sd card. is the fault coming from the contacts? What can we do ? to clean ? can we get around the pb? Thanks a lot

Does that mean you have charged it since this happened? If you are relying on the charge level from before, don't. You should assume that something ran the battery down when this happened.

If you have a spare card, try it. You won't be the first person whose card tested OK but didn't worl. You can use a larger card and resize the books partition later.

And I wouldn't expect it to. It simply restarts the device if it has hung. It won't do anything if the device is not actually running. You should try the last set of instructions on https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kobo_Reset:_Glo_HD. That will format the root and book partitions and reinstall everything. It shouldn't be needed after using the image, but, sometimes it is.

You can check to see if the contacts are clean and wipe them careful to clean them. Also check the cable to the screen is seated correctly and not damaged.

And to check: You asked for the image for a Glo HD. But, your device is listed as "Kobo glo". If you actually have a Glo, then the Glo HD image will not work. The hardware for each device is different, and the images are specific to the hardware.

thank you for all these precise answers.
- for the sd card question: I tried another new card from another brand ... no better (the kobo is indeed a glo HD, but actually I also have a kobo glo that I succeeded to be repaired a few months ago).
- the battery is ok: when I turn on the reading light, the LED lights up in red and stays on ... for a long time (I didn't wait to see when it goes off). when i turn off the reading light, the led goes out. if I unplug the battery and plug the reader into the usb / mains socket, it's the same thing. If the screen is plugged in incorrectly, does this prevent the reader from booting?
- formatting the root and book partitions with the kobo reset maneuver does not make the screen react.
- I rubbed the contacts of the location of the sd card a little. can we clean with isopropyl alcohol? or contact bomb?
- I'm sorry to bother you with all my unsolvable problems, I will soon put my brick in the trash ...
