I think this new device will likely be really good for the kitchen and the study/office/desk. I currently use my Echo and my Fire HD 6 together in my study on my desk, but to be honest the Alexa app on the Fire HD 6 is so terrible that it is not that useful for displaying info about the song that is playing. The Alexa app is slow and it constantly boots itself back into the Home screen. POS if you ask me. So hopefully the new device will have a built in app that works much better with it. The app on my FireTV is great and I've never had any issues with it.

I'm not too sure about the new device but I'd have to see once it's out. I have 1 Echo and 2 Dots already, so not entirely convinced I want to add more especially if it's expensive.

I connected my Dot and my FireTV through my Sony soundbase system, and they both rock! I think for those of us who have already rigged up solutions we probably won't be as likely to buy the new device. But for first timers, or people with lots of money to throw around, it might be a good device. It will be interesting to see the price and the complete specs. I wonder if it will only display Alexa related stuff on the screen or will it be a complete Android/Fire tablet OS with all the functionality thereof?

But thinking kitchen/recipes, that's not something you need a great speaker for, you can easily prop up the tablet to read it, and if you destroy it with cookie dough or liquid, you're not out a lot of money.

Seems to me getting an Echo or Dot AND a tablet would make more sense and be more versatile than getting an Echo with a screen.

That's how the FireTV works. Just like the Tap, the FireTV has a microphone button on the remote that I have to press. No need to say Alexa either as the button gets her attention.

Hey Tubemonkey, here is what some music looks like on the FireTV. Not all music provides lyrics, but the songs and albums listed in the Music app on the FireTV do. This is a good song here! Pardon the crappy iPhone photo. It scrolls 2 or 3 lines of lyrics on the right side and puts the current line in bold text.

Help! I just had the idea of buying a Dot as a gift for someone hard to buy for, but of course the sale price is gone. So now I'm thinking that I could give mine instead, and pick up another for myself later, if I can't think of a different gift.

Can I do that, or is it automatically registered to my account? I know some of you have bought these as gifts--how does it work? The info page at Amazon doesn't mention the Echo/Tap/Dot devices, only Kindles and TVs. If I need to change anything in my order, I still have time since it's not shipping for a few days.

For recipes I can see where audio could be a help especially if you are across the kitchen, gathering ingredients.
