Agreed. That is always the worst case scenario. I've never heard of a memory card coming loose but it wasn't properly installed or the PC jarred then I suppose it's possible.

I don't know who you're guru is but be careful. There are people out there just like cars who will fix one thing and break another to make a buck. I had this happen with my PC in TN. I couldn't get the CPU fan apart to repad the cpu so I took it to a shop to do it for me. When I got it back it was okay for a week then I noticed drive issues so I opened her up and discovered one of the cables had been replaced. So my nice good quality cable to my one of my drives was now a crappy cheap brand. I emailed the guy but he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. So I say this know the parts of your PC. I guess he didn't expect I can build my own PCs because I'm a woman. Oh and my PC smelled strongly of Nicotine for two weeks. Had to put in dyer sheets to get rid of the smell but it took forever for my PSU to stop smelling like that.

I feel like a yo-yo One hour I might be okay then another hour it's back and it spikes then break and starts over again this has been going on for over 24 hours now.

He said it's not common, but not all that rare either. If one is out of alignment by a millimeter or two it can cause things to not function correctly. I must have jarred the PC when the stuff fell and not realized it. He knew what it was immediately by the sound it was making. He said that particular tone indicates a memory issue. He took all 4 slots out, tested them, snapped them back in, made sure the PC started correctly, and sent me on my way with no charge. He did offer to test everything out more thoroughly if I wanted them to, but didn't think it was necessary.

It's a local company in the next town over from mine. They don't charge for stuff that's a super quick fix like that or when something is their error. And they've always explained what they did. They've not condescending and don't act like any questions are stupid.

When my desktop got sick last spring (random lockups that had started six months previously and got extremely frequent - like every day) I took it to a local place who told me it was malware and viruses and charged me $110 for that. Sooo the issues started again and I refused to take it back and would start my desktop and laptop at the same time and end up using the laptop all the time. Fast forward to about two months ago when hubby and I were on our way out and I told him to bring the Best Buy card with him and bought me a new computer.

Hubby decided to play around with the old machine and swapped out the memory. It's run like a charm and hasn't had a problem since.

Shame on the local repair company... I'd suggested it might be a memory issue and they'd poopoo'd the idea.

Patricia Rice posted this list of Christmas Historical romances on twitter and this thread seemed to be the perfect place to post it. ( Caveat: I suspect that not all of them are deals, and there might be affiliate tags in the links.). https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...9TMh5zKAM/edit

Funny story. I'm too sick to cook and hubby wanted some sugar cookies. He can't wait till I'm well to make them. So he called his mom for HER recipe and didn't need my help. Then I watch him try to make them which was quite humorous. He then tasted them, made a yucky face and threw a fit and called him mom back to whine to her about it. I offer if he go shopping despite being sick I'd make mine but nope he rather pout. So I go in there look at the recipe he written down and saw he put powder sugar instead of regular sugar in the cookies. I had a great laugh. I use Ethel's recipe for my cookies but his moms to me taste like paste now Hubby's taste like paste with a crust flavor. *snickers*

Funny, Blossom. Men!

I make Ethel's, too. I'm not really good at rolling and cutting, though.

Good one Blossom.

I am the odd one I make homemade. Roll, cut, bake, roll, cut, bake. Yeah that reminds me. I need to bake some more and get them decorated. Think I will try adding a different flavor to these. last time it was maple something. I don't remember something I picked up at the Amish store.

Me either I usually make mine round. I like to put cake icing instead of sugar icing and then add sprinkles. It has to be refrigerated that way but it's so yummy.

He left it all for me to clean it all up. Failed cookies and all so that what I did when I woke up just now. He's been a bear all day it started when he asked what was for lunch and I told him I am too sick to make anything. Odd because last night he told me he asked for a day off to take care of me. Really odd because not once did he asked me if I was hungry or thirsty or did I need anything. I woke up really dehydrated and had to get my own water then watch him grump around about having to cook his own stuff. I then went back to sleep and just woke up. No Fever but I have crud in my head and chest now.
Men indeed! Mine's a bratty kid trapped in a 40 year old body lately.

Oh that sounds good! I love to make from homemade when I can afford it. Ethel's recipe isn't too pricy to make but I just watch him waste all that stuff and cringe.

I love Joan Wolf's books too, and have loved them since her Signet Regencies back in the 1980's (???). She is the only romance author I consistently read. For a long time most of her Regencies were available as ebooks through Regency Reads, and I got almost all of them with great discounts from Fictionwise before FW went broke. Then they disappeared from Regency Reads.

Now she's said on her website (or maybe her email newsletter, can't remember) she is reissuing them and a couple are $0.99 right now at Amazon US: London Season and Lord Richard's Daughter, both of which are awesome. My absolute favorite of these older ones is His Lordship's Mistress.

I like all of her books though - the contemporary ones as well as the historicals. And since I mostly read mysteries, her two mysteries, No Dark Place, and The Poisoned Serpent, are two of my favorites also. They are $0.99 and have been at that price point forever, even though they are HarperCollins.

Anyway, she's got a lot of books to read - I almost envy you if you are just getting started!

(And since I'm not big on the sex scenes anyway, I'm happy with the fade-to-black...)

To my mind you have to include more detail if you're going to include them at all, and there are only a few authors who can do the "fade to black" type scenes successfully (Deanna Raybourn for one).

Okay now give us the top 5 of her books to read. I have not read her.

I do too! I'm not big on Royal icing which is why I prefer Cake icing if I have to decorate them. I love Snicker-doodles most which is a variant of sugar cookie but I suck at making them right. One day I will get it though.

I use my grandmother's recipe for German Market Cookies. I guess they used to be sold at the Market on certain days. Anyway, we cut the sugar in half, and then ice them (powdered sugar, butter and milk) and decorate. Not this year, though. I recently lost 20 pounds and I don't intend to gain it all back!

If you like cookies, I have had great success with the Betty Crocker cookie mixes. For the oatmeal, I add a cup of raisons and a cup of pecans. Then I make them BIG-only 9-12 per package (supposed to make 24. Think a small baseball0. Have to bake for 12 minutes, and then let rest about 10 minutes. We have loved every one of the mixes-just make sure you add nuts or something.
