Ok thanks. Well I ordered on August the 2nd, so I really hope it dispatches by 4th of September as promised, if not a bit earlier as I was early on in the second batch.

Postman arrived with mine this morning at 9.30am. I had ordered on the 29th.

Posted some photos here if anyone's interested, including some comparisons with the iPad.

Mine arrived today! As an ex Sony PRS-505 owner I am really impressed by the screen and features of the new Kindle.

It's also a pleasure to buy books so easily.

Thanks for posting that the kindle screen is better the Sony Prs 505, that's what missed most about the Touch, a clear screen.

I have been poping over to the UK Kindle boards and judging by what's been posted it looks like nothing is moving over the BH weekend. Certainly no one posted anything yesterday about order updates, even just moving to preparing for despatch', my 30th July order is still going nowhere.

A bit gutted really

yeah Im still waiting for my 2, have you read the kindle reviews on the product page yet? Look at the 1 star reviews, one person there claims his july order is not going to get to him till third week Sept! Apparently told to him by CS, even then no guarantee as they have no stocks and dont know when they are getting any!
Now this may not be true, but it is really not helping the issue. I just wish Amazon was more honest about it.
I called them today and was told to wait 48 hours, I explained I was told this Thursday and Friday and Saturday too, he admitted it was not fair and they had no clue what was happening, but they are still being told to say 48 hours. He is looking into it further for me and will email me, but it seems they have no idea themselves. I am gutted. So much for release date despatch. I honestly can't see me getting my 31st and 3rd ones for weeks at this rate.
Even worse the US Amazon seems to be now despatching the 4th Sept ones early, seems they got all the stock while UK can't even get 30th out!

My empty lighted cover keeps laughing at me

I really hope you are wrong, I'm going away on the 18th and wanted it for my holiday. I downloaded the kindle app to my iPhone last night so at least I can get to the books I have bought but I wasn't planning on taking my iPhone to the beach!

My 30th order still had 27/28 delivery date on last night but I change the delivery address to my work and now its back to 'we will email you when...' also lost my free upgrade to next day they had put on my order
I wish they had been a bit more pessimistic with the delivery dates at least it wouldn't have got peoples hopes up, its the uncertainty that gets people annoyed.
I'd rather be pleasantly surprised if it got here early with an estimated delivery end of next week than getting told it would be here last Friday.
Oh well better drm strip and convert some more books to epub so I read them on my phone, wish they would do a Windows Mobile Kindle app so I wouldn't need to to.
Nothing like disappointment to bring out the moaning old grouch in you

seems they have had another delivery in. Looks like wifi models.
My 31st wifi only order just went to Dispatching soon.

yes I saw that too, they must have had a large wifi delivery in today.

Hoping they get a large 3G delivery in next, as Im still waiting on that one too.

Except they seem to have skipped my august the 2nd Wifi only order as my status has still not changed.
