I've had great luck with LZSkindle, and I love the input/output folders. Other than having to rename the actual files after downloading from Kindle4PC, the entire process is super easy, IMO. Way easier than using mobidedrm one book at a time.

I have unzipped, but where is the LZ file? probably a moot point as I have just done every file through an old K4PC, one by one in preparation for a k3.

Anyone have an old installer for Kindle4PC? The one posted to rapidshare is gone.

Can someone define what exactly is considered an "older" version of K4PC? Would v1.1.1 suffice for the usual tasks?
Thank you! |

Not sure, but you don't need an older version (unless you want/need to use UnSwindle for some reason). The K4PCDeDRM calibre plugin (which removes the DRM when you add a book to Calibre) and K4PCDeDRM GUI work great with book downloaded with the latest version of K4PC. So does LZSkindle.

I have been using a beta version. Must check into the plugin for calibre though. Had never heard of that.

I just tried the calibre plugin from Apprentice Alf's blog and it worked on the latest version of K4PC - 1.2.1 it works great!

That's great! I just tried this last week and couldn't get it to work. I was successful with K4PC 1.0.1 and unswindle but this will be so much easier.

Yes, it works great. I thought maybe it would work with books downloaded to computer, not through K4PC, but it doesn't. Great thing I didn't have to customize it, though. Idiotproof.

@DiapDealer: skindle is a command line utility and is written in C. It comes with source. Compile it on your Linux system. It should work.
Haven't tried because I use Windows at home just to be compatible. Linux is a "work thing" at the moment. Gave up using it at home due to the state of MTAs. Couldn't get one that would share nice with a Windows dual boot. Ah well. But compiling and using skindle should set you up OK, yes? |
