If've had the same problem. The led stood red and the ray was shown, even after 8 hours "charging" (battery-symbol indicated "full" after 2,5 hours, the ray didn't disappear)

@ Matthijs: Could it be that some thressholds for discriminating between noise and press can get corrupted? I can not remember exactly what I was doing when I first saw it. Probably I was removing/reinserting the SD card a lot to get initial versions of FBReader and Xournal working. It might also have been connected to the PC via USB (for charging) at the moment that the keys stopped functioning. (hope this helps for reproduction.)
@ rfog: Did your keys stop working since the first time you saw it or do they work sometimes (e.g. after power-up)?

@Mackx: no, they stop working after a while and never worked since that, but it seems I've got solved:

First I deleted dr.ini and started DR. Keys didn't worked, but then y powered off and put the 1.71 firmware into SD. I power on and DR asked to update... I touched right side keys and worked. I said no, restarted and continue working now.

Now I've formatted the SD with DR and lost all the folders except System and adobe-digital-editions. Now I'm going to recreate the folders and populate them with my stuff but not copying "metadata.db" files.

My micro app is 0.41

It's very strange. It has stopped working just when entering into Personal Documents. However, after a reboot they still work.

It seems a very random problem, and I'm pretty sure with 1.71 worked (or I will have used device warranty).

Is there a changelog for betas and the differences between them? Just loaded the latest version and it seems like the contrast is sharper

Not that I've found. They did say that some of the things reported on here for 0401 have already been fixed in 0408, but there isn't a list that I can find.

hi all,

i updated my dr1000 to v2 day before. and was full of apprehension reading all the issues in this forum. must admit that the results so far have been a pleasant surprise. thanks to the various posts, i didnt use the SD card with old s/w and data on it - instead used a freshly formatted 16gb card. update was smooth and after the system booted up, started copying my data - so far i have put about 1700 pdf docs and about 1300 epub books. indexing upon boot after adding the files did take a while (i estimate approx 4-5 secs per document) but subsequent boots are quick and only new/changed files are (re)indexed.

the biggest surprise was the pdf reader . it is very fast and even magazines like sci am which are not just text are loaded and page turns quick. havent seen a problem so far.

on the negative side, i seem to have a problem with opeining the book folder - with 1300 books, the folder takes 30-40 secs to open (in SD card view it is a bit faster). this is annoying. but once opened, page turns are quick. this problem does not happen when opening the personal docs folder which has all my pdfs. has anyone else seen this problem.

notes app is basic but usable.

newspaper reader works very well, like before. thank god for that as reading newspapers from india is a daily dose for me.

all in all, a great step forward and if i could request irex - please fix the power issues (proper sleep mode etc) before tweaking what already works in an acceptable way. currently the power management sucks in an otherwise very usable device.

cheers,

/bazmi.

Yes, I do see a difference in contrast with the 0408 Beta. However, contrast is still not at the level it was. Please fix this properly, Irex! This is such an issue that I'm sticking with the old firmware - although I regularly need to check epubs and temporarily install the beta - this going back and forward is a royal pain.

I've tried a small font size in landscape orientation, still 1 column. On the desktop ADE I do get 2 columns. Has anyone been able to display 2 columns in an epub on the DR1000?

Yes, that is a known issue with the beta software (more people have reported it and iRex engineers have confirmed it). Unplug and check if the battery indicator tells that it is (almost) fully loaded (tap on small battery icon to get more detailed view of battery level).

complaints and suggestions

so some suggestions..
1- please enable full width in landscape mode.. but don't make it mandatory cause if you read documents with pages that are wider than tall (like presentations in pdf) it works well the way it's now..
2-when zoomed let the flip bar at first show the remaining page and than change the page, showing the beginning of the next page, not the last piece..
3-put the zoom selection, the hand and the pencil icon on the bottom bar.. why I have to go to the menu at first ?
4-ADD A WEB BROWSER with pen input and on screen keyboard input AND A TCP/IP STACK, so that if you connect an usb modem to the usb port you can navigate on the internet..

bugs:
1-a little audible click when turning pages on some pdf..
2-some pdf (very few) are not rendered properly..

@2: it was more or less like that early on: when zoomed, touching the buttons would pan across the page, rather than flip it. That was pretty unusable ; most of the time one zooms to show a page without margins and when pressing the switch one wants to see the next page, in the same zoom position.

@3: IIRC they've already announced that the customizable bottom bar will return ASAP.

I am glad to hear that because my DR1000 is now bricked with the software update... Sorry, I just posted this issue in another thread, but I couldn't help myself from replying to this post...

I tried to upgrade my DR1000S from the 1.7.1 firmware to the 2.0RC2 firmware. After the "updating firmware" screen, it seemed to attempt to reboot and I was greeted with 1) a blank screen 2) a green bottom middle LED and 3) a orange status LED.

I tried various forms of resets to no avail. I reverted the SD card to the old 1.7.1 firmware, nothing. *immediately* after turning on the device, I get the orange led and a blank screen and nothing else happens. It does not load the 1.7.1 firmware anymore, so I am effectively left with a brick.

I would appreciate your help in resolving this issue.
