Absolutely.

In addition, though, if the USA sells the most books, they lose the most money from doing this. Shops, publishers and authors.

I agree, US bookstores still want you to shop there, that is why they have left some loopholes. That way they can claim they are really trying to stop us but still get our business.

In the case of Diesel those loopholes are as fine as 0.001 sieve mesh!

You're kidding right? Do the publisher's top-guns during their annual meeting actually decide to leave a few loopholes for the desperate (and wily enough) international ereader community?

Not the publishers, the US and UK booksellers. At the moment it is still quite easy to buy ebooks on US websites. Methods have been discussed at length in various parts of this forum. If you guys have any trouble, let me know b. I haven't tried Diesel in a long time, since they seem to be more expensive. If anyone needs any help, PM me. I don't won't to discuss too much out in the open. That will give the sellers an excuse to plug the loopholes.

Yeah, but also much, much quicker to download it for free sometime than mess around with faking who you are or where you are - let alone paying money for VPNs, etc.

If going to be dodgy, why not go the whole hog? (if it has been uploaded of course, different if not).

Well I am game, please PM me with a workaround for Diesel. I would love to solve that little issue more or less permanently, or how ever long I can!

OK well i have read through a few pages of this thread, and i kinda get most of the points made,

But come on get real ! Sell me what i want in the way i want for whatever price i say, or i will go ahead and steal it anyway ???

I don't like the geographical restrictions, the price, the choice of books and formats, and i have the right to complain,

But to just take what i want, will not inprove the attitude of publishers, or make them believe they don't need these restrictions will it ?

I love eBooks, I'm only just starting out on this way of reading, i sure hate the prices, and the lack of some eReaders, eBooks in some countries, Boy you US readers should see how few eReaders we can have, and have fully functioning here in the UK !

But i still want to do it legally, i'll still nag publishers, lobby Authors, and read what i can, but theft is theft, and won't help our cause wil it ?

The posters here are not from the USA. You are from the UK so have quite a few ebook store options available to you, so your self- righteousness doesn't really count in this argument, does it?
The original poster is trying very hard to buy books, as for me I've given up a long time ago...
People from other countries have none or very severely limited options to buy ebooks. That is the point.... What is your point?

Because of these tightly imposed restrictions, ebookworms are more or less FORCED to go down the darknet path, especially after attempting to buy the book legally only to be faced with every obstacle imaginable to prevent them from doing so.

I have spent 3 days trying my damnedest to buy the last book in a series that I could previously buy online with no issues at all and now cannot.

I am hoping as the release date draws near that other ebook stores offer it for sale and previously successful workarounds allow me to pay for and acquire the book.

If that proves impossible then I have to explore other options. Options I really want to avoid.

I have long held the view that geographical restrictions would prove more insidious than DRM. I firmly believe that view is correct.

Dragonbone, sorry don't mean to upset anyone, i actualy meant the Reader Devices, in the US many more are available,

My point is that because you disagree with something, it doesn't make it right to steal, or help your cause !

I want cheap uptodate eBooks but i don't want to steal, sorry but is that wrong ? i just can't agree with those who advocate theft!

We love dogs too,

I don't think any poster here is advocating the download of ebooks except out of utter, complete frustration.

You see, geo restrictions, more than even DRM will turn readers to obtaining "free" copies of ebooks simply because they have no other choice.

Others who have done so have obtained an authors email address and organised to send a payment for the book direct.

Sorry Sabredog, i understand your frustration, i really do, but is frustration a reason to Steal ? i know most of us do things legally, and i can see the temptation when the publishers get it so wrong, but I still do not want to steal, and don't believe it proves any point to do so, maybe i'm wrong, it is after all only an opinion !

I really don't think anyone wants this thread to be hijacked regarding the rights and wrongs of piracy. There are other threads for that, so lets keep that discussion out of this one?

This thread is about trying to short circuit GR to legally buy ebooks.

I've actually complained to the stores who don't sell me and they can take it up with "upper management", meaning the publishers and others who have to do with this.

As for stealing, I don't do it, but I get it. It might not improve the situation, but at least in the sort term it will improve the situation of the reader who is using illegal means to get what he or she wants.

As for the situation in the UK, please don't complain, because it is 10 times better than in most EU countries. Well, actually do complain, just not here!
