So why do some prefer LRF over ePub as stated earlier in this thread?

![]() That is one thing I really like.. To be able to specify the font I want to use. I'll have to give Gentium a try sometime. Oh and as for the body CSS style, I also do the following... Code:
body { font-family: "Fontin", serif; widows: 0; orphans: 0 } Last edited by JSWolf; 01-07-2010 at 09:51 AM. |

I'm thinking that if Sony goes with the new ADE (aka B&N) then we'll get a new ADE for the 505 with full justification. |

Though K2 and the 505 can be hacked with new fonts, I like that *I* can chose the font from a wider range and the base size myself, so the 505 is better in this respect. |

While reading Under the Dome, the K2 was justified and the 505 with ePub was not. I was good with both of them. I don't seem to have a preference.

Correctly me if I am wrong but: For ePub to be fast with embedded fonts, you must customise the reader. It would not work right out of box with a font of your choice. Basically the same as with LRF. Where is the difference? |

2. LRF is fully justified vs. ragged edges in ePub. I like using BD for creating LRFs. No coding knowledge is required. I think Sigil is almost there for ePub but then ePub is too slow (opening TOC, changing font size) on my 505 so there is no point. |

LRF is rather slow when you embed fonts. So if you want to change the font of an LRF, you have two choices, change the system font (long arduous process) or embed which makes the LRF too slow to enjoy reading. Now the ePub with an embedded font is just fine. And you can get true italics, true bold, and anything else you can do with a font as well as have multiple fonts all over the page very easily. |

2. This is true. But there is always hope that Sony will update ADE in the 500, 505, 300, 700, & 600 since ADE in the 900 is of newer design. Actually, going to the external ToC is quite fast. The original problem was something created by Calibre whihc as now been fixed. However, if you are using Reader Library or Calibre to move LRF to a 505, then opening the LRF (the first time) will be slow as the 505 has to paginate it. Then if you want to change the text size from there, it's again the need for pagination. Change the text size yet again and another pagination is in order. According to others, using Reader Library causes the pagination already done with LRF to be lost. So it will once again be slow as it repaginates all over again. Now, if you use eBook Library to manage content, then the pagination will be done for you and stay done. But then you lose access to the Sony eBookstore. This is yet one more thing. Because embedding a font in ePub is easy to do, it gives me a better reading experience as I can use the font of my choice (usually Fontin). And because Fontin is an easier to read font, I can get more text per page with ePub then LRF. Last edited by JSWolf; 01-07-2010 at 02:13 PM. |
