I just downloaded the new Library on my netbook with no issues. I'm nervous to put it on my desktop though. So I can either do that, or use my netbook as my new hookup for the Reader, but I'm also scared that it'll be on sync and remove all the books off my reader. Fixable, but a pain in the butt. Suggestions?

I would put it on your netbook and go through all the work of rebuilding your library and collections. If you travel with your netbook you then will always be able to re sync your reader if something happens on the road.

Just downloaded the software for my mac & it's buggy. Kinda sorta works, sometimes. Does not want to engage my 505. Freezes when I try to open the 505 or copy something to it. Managed to get into the Store & redownload 3.1. We'll see...

Fortunately, we'll always have calibre...

Sorry, can't grasp what you meant.
The new Social ADEPT (used by B&N) can't(?) be bypassed currently (correct me if I'm wrong).
The old one (personal license-based) can be decrypted if you try it on activated machine (through ADE, because currently it's the only software that could do it).

This might be a stupid question, but do you need ADE to be installed on the same PC as the Sony software? Will you be able to have the Sony software on one PC, copy the ePub files to another PC with activated ADE and then librate it with the ADE key? I don't want to risk a software clash on my main PC just to get the freebies.

We've not even see the B&N thing yet, so it's really not possible to make any kind of statement about it -- of course I may be not up on the latest.

Just tried it again this morning and still can't get into the reader store. So, if I cannot use Sony's very own website to buy books for my 505, anyone know where else I can buy epub editions of books?

I am looking for And There Were None by Christie right now.

Just in case anyone here was hoping or expecting the 17,000 or so missing titles to be converted to epub and made available soon, I want to report that today Sony have 110 more titles up than they did yesterday. I believe this means it will take them a while.

I just purchased my first book from the new Sony Reader store. Went without a hitch. I did have to re-enter my credit card info, but downloaded fine and liberated fine.

I don't believe you need ADE to be installed on the same PC as the Sony software. While I do have ADE installed on a freshly built Windows 7 machine along with the new Sony software, I did not have the Python tools installed on it to liberate the ePub file. Those tools were installed on my "old" PC.

What I did was download one of my previously purchased books in ePub format from the Sony store on my Win7 machine and copied that ePub file to my "old" machine to liberate it there since Python was already installed there and already had my ADE key there.

That's been my experience anyway.

I think if Sony gets this right, I will be more inclined to buy books from their store for the simple reason that I can de-DRM them and have future portability. I was reluctant before simply because I couldn't do that with their LRX format.
