Doug, I meant to post last night - but I gave up at 5608. Not bad for two nights. I'm at work all day for the next four days, so progress may drop off. Unless I get lucky when I get out of prison in a few hours. We shall see. I still have a big monster fight to write. I gave up before the punch(line!)

I can, however, strongly endorse yWrite5 by Spacejock Software as a writing tool. It is wonderful and extremely intuitive.

This has been an incredible experience and it's only three days old! I have written more in that time than I had in the sic months previous. I guess that I am so competitive that getting to that 50K mark is just like waving a red flag...

Pfft. Sounds completely fictional to me. I was raised by a "family" of gorillas in the parks and back alleys of inner-eastern Sydney, and I can assure you that the species' three-party political system is dominated by the Liberals, the Gods-damned Liberals, and The Smelly Hippies (the cage-fight that they call "government in session" is an interesting take on rhetoric though). Clearly your gorillas are brainwashed, or in an alternative timeline. Anyway only dogs pilot airships and, as we all know, pandas are the Nazi-sympathisers.

From childhood memory, the zombies sound about right though.

(Which is to say...I'm intrigued. )

You're welcome to self-disappointment, but we're entitled to still be inspired that your lack of success was because you're in the middle of writing two other books.

Hey, I'd at least like some token points for the fact that part of the slacking was going one-on-one with my nemesis, the face-attacking crowbar. I won that second round, so it's a consolation prize at least.

You know what I find fascinating? So far out of the three of us that posted, there is a sheer amount of steampunkery and tomfoolery abouts!

My word count now stands at 8,016. I think it's time to call it a night.

Chapter 3 is done (So is day 3 - coinkydink!?) and I just killed a character.

It was a shame, I liked him.

I gratuitously killed a family of four in the prologue. The dugong survived the accident.

I'm about to start for the day (okay, it's 2.20pm, but, well, it's a nice day, and the surf was warm, and I've no will-power... )

Just finished day three. I'm at 10,066.

When I started this I was going on eight months of writer's block, and had written nothing the entire time.

My goal was to make the 1675 a day that would get me through, but after yesterday I decided to set the bar at 10,000.

It's all just flooding out.

I have to say I'm jealous of the rest of you and all the action in your work so far. The first half of my novel is meant to be build up to a turning point where everything goes horribly, horrifically wrong.

If you've read my previous novel (and let's be honest, you haven't) you know that it was a balls to the wall horror ride. I miss that quickness and vicarious fun.

Still, this has been an awesome experience so far.

7151 myself, at the end of day four.

I'm not sure if I like Chapter 2. Absurdity tends to abound in my writing (I know, you're all shocked) and that chapter hit a stark realism of impending...well, reality, that will inevitably collision course with my surreality elsewhere. Maybe that's a good thing, seeing as "collision" is kind of a theme running through it. Hey, I've got a theme! I only just realised it, just then, as I typed the last sentence...but, hey, I've got one!

I downloaded that a couple of weeks ago - just for a shuftie - and find it about as inchewitiff and as easy to do as threading a needle in a gale on the darkest of nights in the pouring rain whilst wearing thick rigid leather gloves and a blindfold .....
