Actually, this is bad.. Very very very bad. B&N is pushing eReader. And the idea is to get rid of eReader. Most eBooks in eReader are going to be a poor read on any eink device as the screens are too big for the poor formatting. And the images in most eReader eBooks is way too small and hard to see. This is going to only get worse when we have an 8.1" screen.

Will the iRex have ePub via ADE so we don't have to be stuck with eReader?

I believe ereader has already announced they will be transitioning to the epub format with their current brand of credit card drm in place where required. So at least it's a small step in the right direction, but I haven't seen a definitive timeline for the change.

One of the pictures floating around from a review showed the adobe logo at startup so it looks like it's the official ADE and not some hacked together epub reader.

Edit: The crunchgear review shows the adobe mobile logo on the startup screen.

I'm hoping not. As we don't need yet another DRM scheme to confuse the issue. It would just be a lot easier to go ePub via ADE's DRM and keep things working as is.

This looks intriguing. One aspect I haven't seen addressed in any depth is how well it handles PDFs. Is it going to employ K2 style zooming/panning or is a change in orientation intended to be enough to read 8.5 x 11 documents easily?

Different. The different US carriers have different phones, so as to make it more expensive for the customer to switch networks. In europe we're all on the same frequencies. (900/1800/2100 iirc)

And how about the blood stains on the cover? Sony and Amazon should be worried. Nothing is going to stop this guy.

Not necessarily. The Adobe think may need to be use on any device that reads PDF. I'm not sure though. I know that PRS-500 had the Adobe logo on it too. Perhaps it was due to using Adobe code in the PDF viewer.

Yes. It will have ADE for Adobe DRM and eReader for B&N/FictionWise DRM. The DR1000S is also getting ADE, which isn't surprising since the port is probably 95% the same for the two devices.

Yes, ePub via ADE will be included. They're also switching the DR1000 over to ADE as well in the near future for both ePub and PDF.

Spoken like someone who has never been kept from reading their books on their devices due to Adobe's onerous server-based DRM. I could see how another _exclusive_ form of DRM could confuse the issue, but there is nothing to keep any individual device from being compatible with both EReader and ADEPT DRM. Given the choice between the two, any educated consumer will choose the EReader DRM (provided that this is used in conjunction with the epub format to address the issues with formating and image size you point out) because it guarantees them access to their books no matter what happens to B and N or Fictionwise or EReader.com. If ADOBE changes their system or goes belly up you could be locked from your books permanently (and, of course, this has happened before in regards to ADOBE, so they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt). If Amazon started offering EPUB books with Mobipocket or Topaz DRM, I would understand your point about confusion. But I just don't think it applies here.

If it can handle PDFs as well as the iLiad and the DR1000 I wouldn't personally be worried. I always thought that iRex's was strongest on PDF
