Do you think that the Opus will support non-drm mobipocket files? Cool-er does just that, even if it is an ePUB based device.

Do you mean "supported by the epub firmware" (which it definitely will not) or do you mean "supported by the (hopefully) upcoming prc firmeware" for the Opus?

I sure do hope that Bookeen won't stick to DRM-prc with the firmware update for both readers!

To tell the truth I am not too fond of this company's policies regarding the way they make things hard for their customers. Bad service and stupid DRM decisions. I sure hope Interead or some other company will be able to challenge this. If the service continues to be bad I am certain that I will guide my friends to buy some other company's products.

Bad DRM decisions ? Amazon makes a mess of it, not bookeen !
And as far as i'm concerned, that solves the question, i'll switch to Epub, bye bye mobi !

Bad service ? They where as effective as can be when I nedded them to be.

I hope that too. Maybe that can get resource to code some epub and mobi reader.
but if there is a choice to make, i'll rather have then improving pdf.

Bookeen are completely blameless in this. They WANT to be able to offer both ePub and Mobi DRM in the same firmware. Mobi (Amazon) will not allow them to do so. The road they have gone down - offering two different firmware versions, one for ePub and the other for Mobi - is the only practical one at present, unfortunately. Blame Amazon.

No, but they are not using Mobipocket's code - Bookeen are. In order to retain the ability to offer users the continued ability to read the Mobipocket books they've bought in the past, they really do have no choice but to offer the Mobi capability in a separate firmware version. They have said that they are trying to negotiate with Mobi to remove this silly restriction.

I really hope they'll manage this, but do doubt Amazon will give in...

I used to order books from amazon with roughly 2000euros a year. Sometimes even more.

Well, when I saw that Amazon refused to deliver Kindle to Europe and especially after realizing how idiotically they've managed this DRM issue I got angry and have stopped all my book purchasings from them. Too bad I can not boycot them further.

With me at least they've lost a good customer. I am pretty sure that when this DRM issue and Kindle idiocity catches fire many more people will start boycotting amazon. Especially when several of the non-fiction and technical books are available for free if one knows where to look.

And breaking it while in your pocket is a big risk. That is why 6" is better since it doesn't fit well in most pockets.

As Harry pointed out: they use there own code which:
  • can't decode DRM protected books.
  • Does not have the same display quality - at least so I heard.

Me too. And if you look at "A message to the new Amazon Overlords" 40% of (ex-)Mobipocket customers think the same.
