The SmartQ 7 looks like an interesting device, I am looking for something like this to route audio in and out of a remote location via internet, sure I could do it with a PC but a SmartQ7 may more reliable, generate less heat and use less power....it is essential though for it to boot up on powering up as I will switch power on & off remotely...if the SmartQ 7 only boots by manually pressing the on button it would be unsuitable for my requirements.
Question 2. It would also be necessary run it with battery removed so that it turns off when external power is turned off, does it work with external power connected and battery removed? Would anyone on this forum kindly advise me about these two questions. |

The more expedient method would just be to set the device to automatically power off in 1 minute when it's on battery. That is, of course, if it's not critical for it to immediately shut down.

Many thanks Nation.A.List and Houndx, great tips and information, totally answered my curiosity and it look like it will work. Basically I want it to work as voip connection for audio components of a remotely controlled amateur radio.

Ignore this I figured out that I have a chinese version of CE on the SD card. I'm assuming that if I replace it with an english version everything should work out.

If you can't find an English version (not sure if there is one) there is always the option of using houndx's Chinese/English convertor CAB file (search in Other Devices for it) that will give you approx 95% English.

BTW, the SmartQ 7 and the SmartQ v7 use the almost identical firmwares. I'd swear that they run the exact same version of Ubuntu. If you're going to get one of these, you can save yourself some money and get the older model. |

well i have heard it from numerous people , that this device is very similar to older model , and since no major improvements ( OS , screen res etc.) many gave the same advice, however , i don't have a dedicated Full HD streamer , and i was thinking if i could merge two functionality with this device, although the last time i tried that with a chinese back-street engineered device , let's just say it didn't go well. anyway , your help is extraordinarily appreciated in Farsi community geeks ![]() |
