(small boy calling into the distance) "Kindle! Kiiiiiiiiin-dle!"

(looking to mother) "Mom, I'm worried. Kindle's never been gone this long. Do you think something's wrong?"

(mother smiling while continuing to sweep porch) "I wouldn't worry, Timmy. Kindle's a smart one. He'll be back." (sudden dread appears on face) " Unless he's fallen into the well."

This poll just proves what I suspected before.
People who buy Sony Reader are more of computer/Internet bunch and those who buy Kindle mostly have no idea about mobileread forum, because they don't really need it. A few button presses and voila! the book is on the reader. They don't think about DRM, re-reading etc. The same type of people who buy clothes not thinking ahead beyond next party, or buying food without really thinking how much they need, they just dump it later to rubbish bin. They don't even consider such term as - wasted money. They might live in credit but would not consider to save money and how to do it and where to cut the corners.
I am sure that Kindle sold a lot more readers than Sony. Even with all non-Americans, it might be 50/50 but 60% vs 20%? You have to be realistic.

Astra! Tell us you were being 'funny'.

You are talking about ME, here, and Ricky and lots of other people.

NOT to mention those who are lurking, just following conversations.

This poll, like the ones put out by our government, and anyone else, proves NOTHING.......except that at this particular point in time there are more Sony people participating than Kindle people.

It was supposed to be a fun poll, and certainly not a platform for such trash talk.

The second part of his post is pretty much childish and unnecessarily offensive.
It looks like something coming from a Mac vs PC debate.

However, there have been many people pointing to the supposed fact that the average kindle owner is older and less susceptible to frequent Internet forums.

All of this seems coming from the research done by this author :

I definitely understand this. The Kindle has always been targeted as super easy to use, very little knowledge needed to download a book......thats so that Amazon could sell more books.

What they didn't realize, was that many out there refused to believe there wasn't more that could be done, and that many people have inquiring minds. We don't believe everything we are told, and if we are told we can't do something, we will usually find a way to do it.

Hence, all the "work around" programs out there.

Saying Kindle owners are non thinking credit card living consumers is unacceptable to me.

Stupid poll. Who thought this one up, anyway???

Another explanation may be that there is less kindle owners here on MR as there is a lot of other forums & board that are kindle only.

If I remember correctly, some unofficial sales volume that floated around a while ago were of 300k unit for the PRS-505 and 500k for the K1.

Hey! I happen to like this poll (and all of your others, Grandma). There's no need for anyone to get worked up over things like this. It's not like this is about something that will result in the loss of lives/limbs/marriages/etc., will it? Chill out and have a doughnut.

What a fascinating idea. People who buy Kindles (such as me, for example) don't know anything about the Internet or computers (just been using them both for the past 25 years or so -- before either were considered consumer products), and we live completely in a "credit" world and don't re-read books? Gosh, let's see ..... paid off all of my credit cards, seldom throw anything away (I refinish, repurpose and reuse), but because I own (gasp) four Kindles, that makes me some sort of idiot?

I really do hope you were kidding, Astra, because what you said is beyond offensive. I'll grant you that there are a lot more Sony owners at MR than there are Kindle owners (or at least more that like to participate in polls), however, that statistic standing alone means absolutely NOTHING about the people who own either Sony eReaders or Kindles.

Really, I expect more from you than that kind of crap thinking. Leave being an arrogant twit to someone who knows more about how to do it ...OK?

Did you hear about the one where the Kindle was accidentally flushed down the toilet by a guy who had had just one too many beers? No? Neither have I. But have a donut anyway, okay?

I'm enjoying the poll. I find it interesting as although I now have a sony 505 and love it (already can't imagine being without it) I think if the kindle was available in the uk (with a whispernet equivalent of some sort and a uk/europe amazon book store) I would probably have bought that instead.

And although I love my sony, I'd already thought that I'd also have loved a kindle if I'd bought one, as what I really love is the eInk screen, portable reading and the free books, plus the fact that I don't need to buy bookshelves for ebooks! This poll has just confirmed my suspicions - if the kindle ever makes it to the uk I'll probably have to have one of them as well, budget permitting

Kindle owners are unkempt, mouth breathing neanderthals without the brains or ingenuity to run a toothbrush let alone a computer.

At least that is what vivaldirules told me. Me? I am not so sure.
