I'd love to see a Kindle with the Kobo user interface and the same screen quality as the Kobo Libra 2. I see so much praise for the quality of this screen that I'm seriously considering buying one.

I'd be eager to see a new Oasis, although I'm not likely to buy it. But I doubt now it will ever be released.
As to the new Kobos, if they're really color devices, I'm not particularly interested in that. Unless the hardware is spectacular improvement from the previous generation. Doubtful that will be the case. |

Pocketbook while it has the latest RMSDK, the eBooks can look bad because of the formatting. There's nothing good out of the box because the eBooks are rubbish and/or the software makes the eBooks look bad. |

Whenever I read these types of posts, I can't help thinking how much of a basic user I must be with my ereader.
I have a Kobo and love it. There is nothing I want to change, though a "skip to next chapter" button would be handy. I had a Kindle Gen 2 for about a decade, and while I could happily read on it, I always struggled with it. Couldn't sort my books the way I wanted them. Then Amazon brought in Sets/Collections to the Kindle, and half the books in the set were in the set, others weren't. Sometimes I just don't "get" what everybody complains about. |

ADEPT DRM and Kindle DRM are removed when the books are imported to calibre and Obok can remove Kobo's DRM from Kobo purchases, that covers virtually all of my ebook purchases. One note that due to my personal stance on when removing DRM is permissible, I do not remove DRM from loans (library, Kobo Plus or Kindle Unlimited) since I have not purchased them. Due to previous experiences where online bookstores shut down or online DRM servers (Microsoft's .LIT format for an example) were shut down and ebooks that I had purchased were now just expensive and useless collections of bits, I do not purchase ebooks where I am unable to remove the DRM. I've been doing this for quite a few years and have a collection of saved searches that make it relatively easy to make the changes that I want with minimum work by me. I am very grateful to Strahinja Val Marković, John Schember, Kevin Hendricks and Doug Massay for the work they have done on the Sigil editor and Kovid Goyal, Charles Haley and many others for their work on calibre. |

You can do that in three taps, at least. Tap in the middle of the screen to open the menu, tap the >| button on the progress bar to jump to the next chapter, then tap the middle of the screen again to close the menu. I often do this to see how many pages I have left in a chapter, since I don't like having headers and footers taking up screen real estate all the time. (Of course, I use "back to page x" instead of actually jumping to the next chapter.

For reading most novels, RMSDK is perfectly OK unless it's a site as stupid as Standard Ebooks who like to use the latest and greatest and most complicated code for eBooks that have a very simple format. Given that eBooks are being read with many different programs, they should be kept as simple as possible. For example, don't use pseudo classes when a span will do. Don't use test-transform: small-caps when a smaller font size will do. Yes, there may be things you cannot do to make the eBook fully backwards compatible, but when you can, do so. If it's for your own use, go ahead an add in all the ePub 3 specific code you want as long as the software you are using supports it. |

My favorite font on Kobo and Kindle is CareInk6SP. It's based on Charis SIL and looks very good. You can get it from here for free and give it a try. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=184056 Last edited by JSWolf; 03-20-2024 at 07:49 PM. |

![]() I read happily on lowest-end basic Kindles for a few years too, but not for a decade. Then I moved on and grew fussier with every new ereader I used. |

It would be great if I could just double-click the page turn button to jump to the previous or next chapter. |
