I have merged the notes branch into master so the next calibre release will be calibre 7. Thanks to everyone who helped test the beta.

Just installed Calibre 7 using the normal wget "Binary install" instructions for Ubuntu 22.04 upgrading from the last 6 release.

It fails to start:

qt.qpa.plugin: From 6.5.0, xcb-cursor0 or libxcb-cursor0 is needed to load the Qt xcb platform plugin.
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, minimal, minimalegl, linuxfb, offscreen, wayland-egl, wayland, vnc, xcb, vkkhrdisplay.

Aborted (core dumped)

Brilliant, you smuggled this change into the Comments editor too.

Initial tests: http, file, onenote URLs are fine; as are calibre://view-book, and calibre://show-book, but there is a problem with calibre://book-details

If I select Open link in the editor the BD window pops, but I can't close it because the modal editor window has the keyboard focus. Weird thing is I can move the BD window but can't resize, or do anything else. Edge case issue in Category Notes, but could be an issue in Comments or other long text columns where user might want to link books via BD links - i.e. The Tempest and Brave New World.

Not sure I can do anything about that, its how modals work in Qt.

Nothing happened (no Calibre in Process list checked later) on Mint 21.2 with Mate after upgrade/install to Calibre 7 on seven year old laptop used for testing (apparently last used in March/April 2023)

So ran

sudo apt install libxcb-cursor0

Then Calibre works.

Also the "Desktop Integration" phase seemed to take a long time.

Seems fine now.

No idea, its a new Qt dependency, so if your system isnt using a new enough Qt version or some other software that uses xcb-cursor it wont be installed.

The error comes for Qt not calibre and what to install and how to install it is distro specific. So I dont really know of a good way to fix this.
