No, mine just worked. Sage & Elipsa, but I don't imagine an Elipsa 2E is different. I have the 2E firmware on my original Elipsa, which adds subfolders for notebooks. Though I do all my Pen notes on Sage Advanced Notebook.

But I've had loads of tricky and essentially useless BT Keyboards over the years. This one is the only one as good as USB on a PC or tablet or phone. It's about €12 to €20 depending on source and Brand. Even the Trust brand (Dutch Company) version sold locally seems to be USA layout so like mine from China direct is missing a key. I've one smaller USB keyboard that has the missing key (left of Z on full size). It's hard to get real UK/ Europe keyboards. We scrapped a laptop for parts because now only the USA one key less keyboard is available.

However the Kobo fairly quickly disconnects, you need then to reconnect in Kobo menu, though not re-pair as it remember that.

So it's no use for regular annotation from proofreading as it will have disconnected.

Also it ONLY works on screens where the onscreen keyboard appears, or tapping a field would popup the touch keyboard. On the Sage and Elipsa in Notebooks or Advanced Notebooks it only works to enter a filename, or page up & page down in the notebook, no text entry in either kind of notebook.

So I don't bother. For proof / annotation I do a big highlight for context and brief note or abbreviation. The Annotations have % in book and chapter as well as highlight and note.

Also many keyboards can only pair with one device (some allow two) so you have to unpair the previous or completely reset the keyboard (if possible) to pair a new host.

Summary: Highlight and annotate an epub immediately after pairing and see does text work. It disconnects pretty quick when idle.

A nice deal - https://www.ebay.com/itm/185892478351

BlueProton (well-known Kobo seller on both eBay and Amazon) selling the Elipsa 2E WITH SleepCover for $369.98. So $30 off retail with a $69.99 SleepCover thrown in for free.

Hi!
I'd really love to put the 2E firmware on my Elipsa 1gen... can I ask you how did you do that?
Thanks a lot!

Make sure Elipsa more than 50% charged.
Downloaded the Elipsa 2E SW from here:
https://pgaskin.net/KoboStuff/kobofirmware.html
4.36.21095 April 2023
Unpack the zip (a Mac + Safari does this automatically)
Made sure .kobo folder is visible when Elipsa is connected (need to enable Show Hidden on Mac, Linux etc).
Copy the files & folder unpacked into .kobo
Eject.
Disconnect cable as soon as Kobo reacts.
Wait ages while it auto-updates.

Some say it can be done to Sage, but I'll wait till the 4.37 is released (seems to be beta testing since end of May 2023).

Thanks, very kind of you!
Only one question: with this trick is it possible to create subfolders in the ebook Collections? Hope so, it would be so useful...

No, and that is pointless unless you are using KOReader. Anyway, you can manually put ebooks (epub) and PDFs in subfolders, and Calibre creates a folder (directory) for each author.

PDFs & ebooks are only copied to the Kobo (USB or WiFi Download etc) whereas Notebooks are created directly on the device.

You are asking what a product name means? A rather meaningless question.

Look at the other ereader names. Basic, Paperwhite, Touch, Mini and Glo make sense but Oasis, Voyage, Aura, Forma, Libra, Sage, Vox, Clara, Nia, etc. don't seem to have any meaning other than being a product name chosen by someone in marketing who liked the sound/look of the name.

You can install Elipsa 2 FW ver 4.36.x now (at own risk).

has anyone used the Elipsa 2 pen on the 1st gen Elipsa? I'm considering getting it since it's rechargeable but as it's not cheap I'm wondering whether it's worth it.

I bought a battery charger and two rechargeable AAAA batteries off Amazon for under $15. I highly recommend it. I get about 6-9 months of usage per charge.
