Update on my New Year's schemes: I got the bike stand into my office, and a table contraption to set the laptop or a book on while I'm pedaling. So far I've only pedaled a little bit, but I hope to do much more this week! The Muffin Man (my husband, who bakes, for those who don't know) gave me a bike odometer/speedometer/etc. for my birthday, so I'll be able to track my progress. I'll do some benchmarking this week, then start to set some goals.

Put a generator on the bike to power that computer and you'll have the best reason not to stop.

Yeah, apparently a laptop typically only needs 10 watts or so, and the bike generator can output 120 watts. I'm really going to need to look into getting (or building) a bike generator. Being without the computer was about the worst part of the ice storm that knocked out our power for a week in December.

And if the evil mutant ninja pirate etc. squirrels have their way, the next outage could be even longer.... <cue scary music>

I wasn't correcting your math. I just meant that I had gone another day without soda, since my previous post. January 4th was my first day soda free So now, counting today (Tuesday), I've been soda free 10 days. I even did fast food for lunch today and avoided the natural inclination to get a soda to drink. A BIG test for me!
Despite my natural inclination towards pessimism, I prefer to count my days of success, rather than focus on what remains to be. Actually I consider myself a "hopeful pessimist", translated: expect the worst, but always hoping for the best!

Naturally!

Add banana, peach, kiwi, melon, actually any other fruit with it for extra taste!

I do that at least once a week (though fruit is expensive these days, and we don't have a lot of choices atm, no peaches, no strawberries...)

We usually just do a tiny bit of fresh ginger if we add anything, though I also don't mind carrot added. It depends how good the oranges are.

Ginger in the orange juice? What an intriguing idea!

Sometimes I mix OJ 50/50 with seltzer water in the summer. No sugar -- the OJ is plenty sweet enough for me already.

Today I reinstalled my bike odometer/etc. so that it takes its measurements off the back wheel, rather than the front. This is so I can use it on the bike trainer here in the office and have some notion of how much exercise I've been getting. I had to find a block of closed-cell foam to position the detector close enough to the spokes to be able to pick up the signal of the little magnet that attaches to the spoke, and I had to move the display to the frame, rather than the handlebars, due to the length of the wire, but it all seems to be working now! Naturally, I had to cut off the plastic zip fasteners I'd used earlier, and I didn't have any more, so I stripped some CAT5 wire I'd salvaged from a dustbin earlier and used twisted pairs in different colors to fasten the various bits in place. It's a real geek bike now.
