So, a little off-topic, but related, Kobo just announced their Kobo Sage 8 inch ereader with stylus for note-taking. The battery spec is lacking, and they introduced a new "power" cover with built-in supplemental battery that attaches magnetically. Not exactly the same, but it is reminiscent of the Oasis 1.

No I did not say that.

You cannot compare the Oasis 1 out of it's case to the Oasis 2 & 3 because the Oasis 1 case has a battery in it because of the terrible design of the Oasis 1.

Not the same as the Oasis 1. This is equivalent of a power bank used to charge your phone.

I didn’t say it was the same, if you actually read my last sentence.

Please ignore my messages moving forward. I clearly am not capable of adding anything of value to these discussions without offending your all-encompassing knowledge.

This from the guy who said the Amazon PW5 was a clone of the Kobo Aura H2O.

Which is a smart move, imo. Those who want a smaller note-taker than the Elipsa can have one (presumably for less than an Elipsa costs) while those who don't are not forced to pay more for unwanted functionality

A very smart move, seeing as I don't want a pen.

Except that 32gb and Bluetooth are unwanted functionality by me, also. I take your point, but I suspect that the rationale in large part is that not including the stylus means the quoted retail price can be lower. Kinda of like Amazon and its ad-supported Kindles. If they could include the stylus for a trivial addition to the cost, I’m sure they would (and use it as a selling point).

So... exactly like the Oasis 1, then, except that it might have a built-in battery that's a bit larger so that you don't have to charge it every six hours or so?

Given how much Kobo charges for its covers versus 3rd party covers, I'm more inclined to think they're imitating Apple's historically very successful marketing philosophy of selling as many separate accessories as possible, each with its own eye-watering markup. Why include a $5 stylus for an extra $15 in the "package" price when you can sell it as a 'must-have' add on for $50?

Kobo’s cover strategy apes that of Amazon. Eye-popping and jaw-dropping prices on OEM covers from both. I won’t pay more than $10 for a cover, period. It’s insane to pay a cover price that can approach 50% of the price (at least that I, who waits on a discount) paid for a device.

I agree. While it might be nice to get the charging cover with the Sage, not for that price. Unless I win a lottery.
