I probably won't live long enough to read all the decent PD free ebooks.
Well, yes, but this presupposes watching tv. I don’t watch tv myself, but I think there’s tons of great programming available. I just don’t like watching tv.

Or I could sell my computers and order more books. Or throw away all my puzzles and order more books. Or stop drinking coffee and order more books. Stop taking walks and order more books. Shut out all of my relatives and order more books. But I don't. Probably for the same reason I don't repeatedly punch myself in sensitive areas of my body. Because I don't want to. Because I'm already satisfied with the amount of reading I do, and more books wouldn't equal more reading anyway.

God, I wish I could turn the bloody thing OFF. Mr H suffers terribly with tinnitus, and he needs to have noise to help drown it out, or at least, make him forget it's ringing loudly 24/7. And I can only take so much music for so long, so...the Telly, mostly running news and the like, all our waking hours. Hell, I never owned a TV prior to the existence of Mr. H. (I can read pretty much constantly, lol. As I suspect so too can everybody on MR.)

MacGyver and Magnum P.I. are two more shows that had no need to be remade. I've not seen the remakes so I cannot say if they are rubbish or not. But the originals are good.

Okay...I would agree with both of those statements. McGyver worked as a product of its times, at least starting out cleverly. And well...speaking of aficionados of the male form...holy hot cheeks, Batman, Magnum is a show that should surely never have been remade. In fact, criminal and heavenly penalties should be inflicted on whatever hooplehead came up with the idea of remaking THAT show.

Spoiler:
And now, for my fellow appreciators--here's something mid-blowing. I've met Selleck, in a biz deal back in the 80's, and his brother, Robert, who did his land deals. Brace yourselves--believe it or not, the brother was even handsomer. Yes, I swear on everything I hold dear. To put this more eloquently--hubba hubba!

I do watch Blue Bloods. But somebody really needs to tell Selleck to stop dyeing his hair and mustache.

I watch a lot of documentaries and real life medical programs. One thing I;ve been doing lately is watching old detective/mystery programs that I've not seen before. Shows like Morse, Lewis, Miss Marple, Agatha Christie's Marple, Agatha Christie's Poirot), Vera, and others.

I hope that's not true, since the Criterion service has proved invaluable over the months I've been using it. Highly recommended.

Long ago, I liked Mubi, but the curation and limitations were too intrusive. No one wants to be stopped from watching a film because they were interrupted and the film had an expiration date of 24 hours.

And I've subscribed to Shudder as well, but AMC seems not to have put their groin into making the service seamless. Access issues were frequent; resetting caches usually failed to resolve them. Anyone who wants Shudder and is a Prime member will probably be better off subscribing through Prime.

I would say that the only people who enjoy the original Battlestar Galactica more than the remake are people who enjoyed the show when it originally ran/when the viewer was much younger.

I couldn't imagine any adult (since I assume that is what all posters here are) who had never seen either series before, watching a few episodes of each preferring the original over the reboot (unless they were enjoying the original as camp).

I'm not especially a fan of either. I watched the original when it was new and I was under ten. I have fond memories. But then I caught a couple of episodes more recently. Like a rewatch of The Dukes of Hazzard, the nostalgia quickly fell away.

The remake, I watched for a few seasons before I drifted away. I just don't tend to care for long, episodic content. But it is clearly far superior to the show it was based on.

The Peabody Awards, the Emmys, Time magazine, the Television Critics Association, The New York Times, Rotten Tomatoes, Rolling Stone, IMDb and likely any other place that has a review of either series seem to concur.

But Dirk Benedict hated the relaunch. So there's that

I was 15 when the original BSG aired. The remake is more dark and the characters less likable. The remake just doesn't work. The remake is in noway better then the original. It''s far worse. It's dark, unlikable characters, and boring as heck.

Remakes (IMHO) mean the people behind the remakes are unable to come up with any new ideas.

I don't mind continuing on from the original like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle did.

Yes. So that would make you one of those people that enjoyed the show when it originally aired, as I mentioned. And now it is part of your nostalgia.

That is such a tiresome old saw. Remakes have been around for almost as long as filmed entertainment has been.

The Maltese Falcon, The Magnificent Seven, The Wizard of Oz, Fistful of Dollars, Ben-Hur, Little Shop of Horrors and Heat are all terrific movies that are remakes.

Hitchcock, Spielberg, Howard Hawks, Cecil B. DeMille... there must not have been an idea among them. They've all done remakes.

I agree. I own the original series on DVD but I rarely watch it.
I think the reboot, at least the first two seasons, is some of the best TV SF writing there is, and visually and stylistically, it certainly paved the way for shows like The Expanse. I've been watching it with my son recently.

Heck, the rest of my family wears them virtually 24/7, and they don't even have tinnitus.

Heck no. As far as media consumption goes, I love TV and movies. If all I could do was read, I'm sure I'd come to hate it.
