I like Downpour's rental program and I find more at their sales than I do at Audible's, but that's very much a MMV situation. I think the distinguishing characteristic of each is Audible's much larger library and Downpour's lack of DRM. I patronize both. |

Thanks Ken, Charlie and issy. The tempting part of Downpour for me seems to be the rentals if they save money; how's the pricing on those?

So far this year, I'm about on my stretch target for total read, especially considering January was an INTENSE month at work. And considering some of the (highly technical) books I've been "reading".
Keeping my list up to date? Better than a failure, but only about a "B-". Need to get better at it. Having started/finished dates in Calibre is going to help, however. So, I'm encouraged. |

I have been mostly silent for the past couple months and had a dismal January for reading but I think I am back on track now. My reading has picked up since since I started a re-read of the Belgariad. I haven't read this for 20+ years and it has been a lot of fun.

Good to see you're back to being able to read, Dazrin. I think we all go through slumps like that, and I know for me, re-reading an old favourite is often a way out of the slump. I don't think I've ever read the Belgariad, either. Perhaps time to take a look.

About the Belgariad, while it is certainly worth a look and I am enjoying it a lot, I don't think I would enjoy it nearly as much if this wasn't a re-read. The nostalgia factor is definitely helping out. |

Today I finished the last of the 4 books in the Prince Roger series by David Weber and John Ringo. I always seem to listen to all the books in the series consecutively when I listen to the series. Stefan Rudnicki did a very good job with the narration.

I'm finally getting to Game of Thrones!! I'm listening to the audiobook and following along in the ebook here and there (which I got from the library). There are a lot of characters and I got lost 1/3 of the way through when I tried to listen to it in 2013. So, here's to enjoying the story! I figured since I'm 5 books ahead of my goal (by Goodreads), that I could take on a larger book.

I had started to read Kindred by Octavia Butler, which I had bought (and so far it is an interesting read) but had to go against my goal of "not interrupt a book in favor of another" because my hold for A Mother's Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold came in.
I have wanted to read this for a long time, because wanted to read the mother's point of view. And there is sort of a personal connection to the tragedy of Columbine. I am anticipating a gut-wrenching read as the whole tragedy is horrifying. (I'm hoping it will be a good read. I have read some of the negative reviews and hope that I'm not turned off by the "tone") Last edited by spindlegirl; 02-19-2017 at 07:17 PM. |

Just added another WW2 Non fiction to my reading challenge. The Greatest Generation , by Tom Brokow. Also a WW2 fiction book, The First Wave, by James R. Benn. Both were very good.

How far are you along in reaching your goals? At this point to be on track you need to be 1/6th to your goal, I am 1/2 way, in other words I am going along a lot faster than originally thought that I would go.
