I noticed one paid app that is not available for my HD 8 and it's not on Amazon.com either. I sideloaded it and when I first started it got a message that it needed a security update and did I still want to execute it.

If you have the apps on another Amazon device you can backup the apks using ES File Explorer and then sideload to your HD 8.

My experience is that it is possible to have an app on your old fire tablet, but that app does not appear on the list of "My Apps", when you set up a new one...

In my case I am pretty sure it happened because that app is no longer on sale, but in that case you can backup from tablet 1, sideload to tablet 2 and it will install OK. it could also happen for " compatibility " reasons but it's more likely to be because an app is no longer sold.

I wonder if Kindle books are also like that. It is rarer for a book to go off-sale than an app so maybe harder to find an example

As if i needed another Amazon device... But i couldn't resist this on Black Friday! I can't wait to get it! Shipping is delayed for black. I'm tempted to call and change to magenta... But I'll wait. Can't wait to get it in my hands!!
No one asked but, I have Kindle 7 HD, 6" HD, Paperwhite 2 in black, PW 3 in white. kK 3G-sold on eBay. (I could kick myself) and now waiting for HD 8!

$59 in USA, £85+ in UK.
i know the UK £ is not quite what it used to be but ... has someone at Amazon UK not pressed the SALE button ?

Does the UK share our Black Friday? They don't share Thanksgiving, to my knowledge.

yes, most big Uk retailers have copied black Friday now. Asda (owned by Wallmart) started it 2 or 3 years back, the others quickly jumped on the bandwagon.
This year was notable for folks shopping mostly online instead of fighting in the aisles at Tesco over dodgy TV sets.
amazon Uk have been running a black Friday/ cyber Monday sale fortnight thing for over a week already. they have discounted the Fire 7 basic model to £30 and the kindle paperwhite to £80 but not the other fire models.
we don't do thanksgiving, no one here has figured out what there is to give thanks for about our Novembers

And we have half- inherited the Halloween sweet run a.k.a. trick or treat - I say "half" 'cos if you open the door and say "trick" you get puzzled blank looks ....

Our kids are nominally supposed to say "trick or treat", though usually we just hand them candy regardless. What are your kids expected to say? If anything.

Yeah, I knew that, but in practice, no one is ever allowed to say "trick". If you don't want to give out candy, you keep your lights turned off (porch lights, at least) and you don't answer the door to the little beggars!

Don't ask a question like "trick or treat " ? If you are not ready for both outcomes.
Ditto even if trick or treat is a threat, not a question .

Bah humbug, as we brits like to say.

And our porch light is automatic with no switch, so short of getting a ladder and a screwdriver to remove the bulb, we have to indulge the little grifters

(Artfully merging recent posts) the UK sale has been more Trick than Treat so far. But There are still two more sale days, I remain hopeful of a cheap 8 tomorrow, though not that hopeful.

Stump you can chain a junkyard dog to your front porch, that should do the trick of keeping the trick or treaters away!

Personally I just leave the light off as mine can be turned off. I don't mind neighborhood trick or treaters, but I get miffed when people truck them in from all over the city.

Instead of candy, give 'em pudding. That'll keep 'em away. Word of mouth will do the trick.

Just picked up the new Fire HD8 on Cyber Monday,has 32 Gb of memory,added a SanDisk 64 GB micro SD Memory Card for 15 bucks.
I put Google play store on it working great so far!
