It worked on your Kindle Keyboard because that device is old enough to not support KFX format and the problem with that book is only with that particular format.

Glad that HM likes the Oasis. I am a bit envious of the leather cover it comes with.

I have been using my Voyage for a few days and I love it. I find the haptic buttons on the side very convenient, I can feel them even in the dark, there are two clasps on my Finite case that are near these buttons which indicate where they might be on the device. I do find the Voyage is a worthy upgrade from the PW3 - I love the smooth screen and it makes reading a bit more clear.

One thing I wonder about the Oasis vs the Voyage. I wonder if part of this contributes to the psychology that it's OK to buy the Voyage! When the Voyage came out, I said, that is nuts, I can't spend the extra $$ for that! And then when the Oasis came out, I said really cannot spend the $$$ for that! But in comparison to the Oasis price, the Voyage price doesn't seem too bad now - especially when there's a sale. It's like Tall / Grande / Venti.

I'm sure that was part of the reason the Oasis was priced as it was. It's both well-known economics and well-known salesmanship, and Amazon are nothing if not good at salesmanship.

As many have said, once you include the price of a similar cover on the Voyage, it's only about $30 less than the Oasis.

I think if the button sensors were like the ones on the iPhone 7, I would've been more impressed. On that iPhone, it really feels like you're pressing a button, whereas on the Voyage, it just vibrates under my finger.

My husband bought me an Oasis as a retirement present. I had it for around three hours before I decided that as much as I loved the size, weight and shape of it the screen just isn't good enough for the price they are charging especially as in the U.K. The Oasis is £100 more than the Voyage (I can get a decent Voyage case for £15)

Ironically I didn't think my screen was too awful considering what i've seen on here and online but it was a murky yellow on the left with white shadows on the right where the LEDs were, and and my Voyage screen is sharper and clearer.

I want a second kindle so I can have one at home and one in my bag but I'm going to wait now for another reduction on the Paperwhite or Voyage.

Speaking as an official miser who has to berate himself to overcome this sort of thing all the time, can't you let your husband splash out on your retirement present? It's not as though you're going to be retiring too many times in future!

Consider it a one-off purchase. That £100 is about the equivalent of four restaurant meals, or five or six trips to the supermarket... but it'll last a lot longer than the results of either.

It's not the just the money, the screen just isn't good enough for £269.00. All I could think of was how many books I could buy with the balance if I bought a Paperwhite instead. The money is mine to do what i want with and I just can't spend it on an Oasis at the moment, its just not good enough, i'd be forever looking at the difference in the screen from left to right.

I think its particularly telling that it has been wrapped up to be returned to the store since last night and I haven't once felt the urge to retrieve it and have another look. That tells me how much I want it.

The basic problem is that with the LED lights on the side the screen colour difference is far more noticable than on any other kindle and that is the downside of the device. Hopefully a future release will fix the issue.

I just got an Oasis and don't have the screen issues you do. If I look really, really carefully I can tell it's a smidge different in parts, but overall it's a very even shade of white. It's better than my wife's 1st gen Paperwhite, where I can tell it's separate LEDs illuminating the screen.

Also, I never pump the screen more than halfway (12, I believe). In normal room light, that gives just the right amount to simulate the thing being book-like, without this obvious, artificial glow. At night, with the room lights out, I tend to pump it down lower than that (8, I think), so the light isn't piercing my eyes.

EDIT: I pumped my light up to 24 and stared at it, and the only noticeable difference in screen illumination is that there's a more blueish tinge around the edges. Otherwise, it's a very even color across the screen.

I keep my Voyage around 18/20. I always have ever since my first PW1, I like a white screen. The Oasis wasn't awful and no doubt someone else would find it fine, it's just spending more money on a new device I expect the screen to be at least as good as my Voyage and it wasn't.

I suspect then there was an issue with the Oasis. Mine is very even. The pic I've enclosed has the brightness pumped to max.

EDIT: This pic was not taken in a dark room, so there's probably some discoloration from the harshness of the overhead fluorescent lights in my office. You can see how it's a slightly different color around the edges, which although noticeable "in person", is much more obvious in a photograph.

Don't 100% judge by a photo that was taken by an amateur without adjusting for the room environment at all. Take a pic of your own Kindle, and you'll likely see inconsistencies as well.

Considering this is a front lit device, with lights shooting out from the edges of the screen, it's an incredible experience. It's not a backlit LCD.

Thanks for the picture. The slight smudging I can see on the left of the screen is exactly how the main part of my screen was, with the added elements of white shadows on the right between the LEDs. If it was my first ereader, or an upgrade from a much older device it might have been okay, but it didn't stand a chance against my Voyage. Also for my handbag I think a Paperwhite is a more logical choice, it's much cheaper and more robust, plus with a Walnew case it's only 15gms heavier than my Voyage in its case (also Walnew) so the weight won't be an issue.

I wouldn't have used an Oasis out and about, that would have stayed at home leaving my Voyage as my about town device, but that is a 3G and cost £230. Keeping that at home and replacing it with a wifi PW is a cheaper choice if anything were to happen (now i'm retired I expect to be out much more) and I have my iPhone if I need to tether for a data connection.

That's a cost of £119 (£105 + £14) vs £269.

That's what I'm doing currently as well. Voyage home, PW3 when out. I'll be checking out the Oasis after the Holidays, thanks to Hollow Man telling me about the Amazon Pop up Store, where I can actually see and try an Oasis.
