![]() ![]() Also, when I was going through my documents folder just know when the PW2 was plugged into my iMac, i noted an odd temporary compressed file. After looking around for a couple of minutes, I found its related permanent files (with the same date and time stamp). So I got brave and deleted that temporary compressed file thinking that it might have been fouling things up. I ejected and then unplugged from my iMac and then restarted. The e-book in question was a kindle single on climate change that I was able to access after completing the procedure in the above paragraph. After my wonderings on my PW2, it is back plugged into an outlet in the event it needs more time to re-index. |

I don't have a PW-2 to test on - - But I could download the Amazon image for it, unpack with KindleTool, mount the image file and go looking for the dm command script - just to see if they removed it. There may be a delay in that - I still am spending my time trying to get together everything I need to unbrick my K2. |

![]() knc1, if kindle tools that your refer to is something that is freely available that I can run on my iMac and I know where the amazon image is that you refer, let me know and I'll try to give it a shot. ![]() Last edited by Eagle Reader; 04-09-2016 at 07:23 PM. Reason: adding a remark |

Nope, ;dm still works on FW 5.7.x
![]() Make sure you actually *enter* it, not simply type it and sit looking at it ![]() |

![]() I don't have that many items on my kindle (65 at present). And I think I would have noticed the "dump messages" file. But perhaps I am recognizing the item I am looking for, always possible. So if someone can tell me what the "dump message" document will be called, I can look for that specific title or do a search. And I have looked in my documents folder as well. And if I should look in all downloaded (includes side loaded) or all docs. Last edited by Eagle Reader; 04-09-2016 at 09:40 PM. |

A new thought - -
Connect to PC - In the file view of the PC, delete a book or document - eject USB storage - hold power button for 30 secs or more, ignore any pop-up panels, let go once it starts to re-boot - When it has finished re-booting - Connect to PC - In the file view of the PC, is that book or document still gone? |

You do know you can turn off that "Recommended for you" thing and get back the lower 1/3rd of the screen for your own use, don't you? ![]() The bad: Turning off that option does not stop it from calling home with details of what you have read / are reading. The ugly: You can't change (or at least in 5.6.1.1 you can't) the 'end of book' actions without knowing what/where to edit in USB storage. And even after editing, the *&^&*$ machine still calls home with the news that you have just finished the book and need to be sold something else. Two pair: 99 44 |

Thanks NiLuJe and kcn1 for your help. I really appreciate it.
NiLuJe, well you made me giggle, always a good way to start the day. ![]() ![]() kcn1, I will try your suggestion later. Although, I have deleted some extraneous files in my documents folder while on my mac and restarted. I think they are gone, but I'll do your suggestion again later. I'll delete one of the NY Times that I have already read. Also, yes, I know about removing the recommended books that clutter the bottom third of the screen. And thanks for the confirmation that the kindle will phone home after I have a read a book to get more recommendations for me, which will be there the next time I sync. |

Opps, typo. Yes, I used ";dm" on my search. This is what happens when I try to be intelligent before my morning cup of coffee.
![]() Anyway, success! And I've had my morning coffee and then some. The trick was to type in ";dm" (semicolon and without the quotes) hit the search button, and then wait, I waited about a minute before exiting out of the search results window. I never did the log files appear on my screen as they did in NiLuJe video. The first thing I did was to search on "logs" and the log files were there (in duplicate because I did the search twice, don't ask ![]() These are the files that I have. I am somewhat used to reading my iMac's log files though I am far from an expert. I am thinking that the file of interest is "system_logs", which seems to begin yesterday (4/9) at about 1900 hours EST (had forgotten to change the kindles clock to daylight savings time), this is about the time I did my last restart. On the apple boards they don't want people to post entire log files so I am not doing so. But if there is something you would like me look for in a specific log file, let me know and I'll give it a shot. No rush, ok? I am cool, I can wait. all_wpa_supplicant_logs_as_of_Sun_Apr_10_08.44.19_ EST_2016.txt all_system_logs_as_of_Sun_Apr_10_08.44.19_EST_2016 .txt all_netlog_logs_as_of_Sun_Apr_10_08.44.19_EST_2016 .txt The log file with zero bytes is: wininfo_logs_as_of_Sun_Apr_10_08.44.19_EST_2016.tx t After leaving my PW2 plugged in for about 24 hours in sleep mode (with the exception of a couple of hours yesterday), I am going to leave it unplugged in screen off mode. |
