Cross-posting from the romance thread, where @briefcandles found JD Robb's Brotherhood in Death in the Kobo South Africa store for R 23.99 or about $1.72 after tax. South Africa has a VAT, but if the book is inexpensive enough, it can still work out. Current US Kindle price is $13.99. So if you are willing to travel a little (or a lot):
link to post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3257934

I took a quick look around while I was in SA, and found a couple of other recent mystery titles, these by Susan Rogers Cooper, for about R 38.30 after tax = about US$ 2.40. Current US Kindle price for each is $6.15.

Dark Waters is the 10th in the Milt Kovak series.
link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/dark-waters-4
Spoiler:
Quote:
When Milt Kovak wins a seven-day cruise for four to Puerto Rico, he takes his family – wife Jean and son, Johnny Mac, plus Johnny Mac’s best friend, Early Rollins. It’s spring break and the ship is running over with children – and they really are running – everywhere. It’s complete chaos, but things are about to get even worse when Johnny Mac and Early are caught stealing. By the time the boys confess to who put them up to it, a boy named Joshua (a.k.a. the Artful Dodger), Joshua’s body is found dead on the top deck.

There’s plenty of blame to go around, but with two full days of sailing ahead of them, Milt and Jean team up with the ship’s security officer to try to find the killer, before they strike again . . .

Gone in a Flash is the 11th in the EJ Pugh series.
link: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/gone-in-a-flash
Spoiler:
Quote:
After almost ruining her marriage to husband Willis months earlier because of her habit of involving herself in murder cases, E.J. Pugh is determined to stay out of drama and pay attention only to her husband, children and writing career. How hard can it be?

But through no fault of their own, E.J. and Willis are plunged into another crisis when someone chooses Willis’ truck to hide a satchel. Finding the satchel with no ID inside, their foster daughter Alicia decides to make it her new backpack. When Alicia suddenly disappears, along with the satchel, E.J. and Willis are beside themselves. Why is the satchel important and, more importantly, where is Alicia? Can they find answers before it’s too late?

Note you need to already be in the Kobo SA store for the links to show the prices in Rand.

Below is the blurb:
Hotshot attorney Martin Vail must defend a young man accused of brutally murdering Archbishop Rushman, known as the "Saint of Lakeview Drive." This case looks impossible until his psychologist makes a discovery.

"Spine-tingling...Mr. Diehl can sustain suspense."
--THE NEW YORK TIMES

Martin Vail, the brilliant "bad-boy" lawyer every prosecutor and politician loves to hate, is defending Aaron Stampler, a man found holding a bloody butcher's knife near a murdered archbishop. Vail is certain to lose, but Vail uses his unorthodox ways to good advantage when choosing his legal team--a tight group of men and women who must uncover the extraordinary truth behind the archbishop's slaughter. They do, in a heart-stopping climax unparalleled for the surprise it springs on the reader.

Girl in a Box is the ninth in Sujata Massey's Rei Shimura series. It has recently dropped to $0.99 at Amazon US, not sure why or for how long.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000W93CNQ

Spoiler:
Quote:
Chronically underemployed Japanese-American sleuth Rei Shimura has taken a freelance gig with a Washington, D.C., alphabet agency that just might have ties to the CIA. Her mission, should she choose to accept it, is to go undercover as a clerk in a big Tokyo department store. It's a risky assignment, but it also gives Rei a store discount that allows her to freely indulge her shopaholic tendencies.

Meanwhile, she's listening in on private conversations, crashing a conference, and fending off the unwanted advances of a couple of the store's executives who seem fascinated by her navel ring. When her cover is blown, Rei is in big trouble. Suddenly she's neck-deep in something very nasty, and it will take all her resourcefulness and unorthodox methods to survive a determined killer.

Just Desserts is the first in Mary Daheim's Bed-and-Breakfast series. It has recently dropped to $0.99 at Amazon US, no idea why or for how long.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OI0ER2

Spoiler:
Quote:
When the garishly grotesque clan of wealthy carpet-sweeper magnate Otto Broadie sweeps down upon Judith McMonigle's Hillside Manor Inn, it looks like there'll be a wild night of drinking, dining, and fortune-telling in the offing. But when their soothsayer-for-hire Madame Gushenka drops dead after someone douses her tea leaves with bug killer, harried hostess Judith and her irrepressible cousin Renie are left to clean up the mess. One of the Brodie bunch would dearly love to sweep the Madame's murder under the rug, however, and that might mean eliminating the nosy Ms. McMonigle as well. But with the help of her one-time beau, policeman Joe Flynn, Judith is determined to rattle the dust off some closeted family skeletons, in order to coax a killer out of hiding before coffee is served.

The Body in the Boudoir is the 20th in the Faith Fairchild series (although it's a prequel) by Katherine Hall Page. It has recently dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US, again, not quite sure why or for how long.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006FOHNK0

Spoiler:
Quote:
Massachusetts minister’s wife, caterer, and sometime amateur sleuth Faith Fairchild returns in The Body in the Boudoir, the twentieth installment in the Agatha Award-winning mystery series by Katherine Hall Page that provides mystery, heart, wit, suspense, and mouthwatering recipes aplenty.

Page turns back the clock this time to 1990, as a young Faith Sibley prepares to wed the love of her life, Thomas Fairchild…if she can survive a malefactor who’s trying to disrupt the ceremony by doing away with the bride. Fans of cozy culinary mysteries, like the bestselling Goldy Schultz novels of Diane Mott Davidson, will adore the tasty mayhem Katherine Hall Page cooks up in her Boudoir.

The Bone Yard is the sixth in the Bill Brockton series by Jefferson Bass. And it has recently dropped to $1.99 at Amazon US, not sure why or how long.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004DI7LZC

Spoiler:
Quote:
The sixth electrifying forensic mystery by author Jefferson Bass (“a fresh voice in the crime novel arena” —Seattle Post-Intelligencer), The Bone Yard is the most gripping installment yet in the New York Times bestselling Body Farm series. Called away from Tennessee’s renowned Body Farm (the real life human decomposition laboratory around which these remarkable thrillers are based), Dr. Bill Brockton discovers the dark side of the Sunshine state when he’s called in to investigate human remains found on the grounds of a Florida boys’ reform school. Rich in authentic forensic detail and featuring a protagonist as involving as crime fiction’s most popular medical examiners—including Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta, Karin Slaughter’s Sara Linton, and Kathy Reichs’s star forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan—The Bone Yard is unassailable evidence that this series “just keeps getting better” (Booklist).

Free on Amazon UK - A Circumstance of Blood by Jeannette Batz Cooperman

'Father Colin McAvoy, a Scottish Jesuit priest, is the principal of the newly formed Matteo Academy. With fifty students, the majority fee paying, he looks forward to being able to offer places to another fifty students whose parents are unable to pay. Working on his staff is University friend Jimmy Cadigan, also a priest, and Father Francis Charron, an elderly priest, who had taught Colin at seminary school. Charron’s brilliant, but he assisted at an exorcism as a young priest and has never recovered from the experience.
One of the academy’s students, 17-year-old Philip Grant, dresses like Oscar Wilde and hasn’t troubled to define his sexual orientation. Irreverent and rebellious, he’s researching the private lives of the faculty for a video mashup. He asks to borrow the Matteo Ricci map, a sixteenth century map which has been donated to the school. Philip’s enough of a handful, but then Auxiliary Bishop Matthew Ehrlich arrives at the school to tell Colin that he has a new pupil for him. The son of a local lawyer and psychologist, Graham Dennison has been accused of trying to kill his mother. Colin tries to refuse; Ehrlich, conscious of the fundraising prospects, insists. Miserable, Colin contacts his university friend Sarah Markham, a journalist who has just returned from Haiti. Sarah moves in and starts to develop a profile of the young man. She’s not convinced he’s violent at all. And then one of the boys is found dead from a possible drugs overdose. With her old friend panicking and other faculty members behaving strangely, Sarah starts to call in favours to get to bottom of the murder. Was she wrong about Graham? Can she unravel the mystery swiftly enough to save Colin’s school? '

Per an email this morning from e-publisher Le French Book, Laurent Guillaume's White Leopard is on sale this week for $0.99 at Amazon US. It was also briefly on sale back at the end of last year.

Le French Book's specializes in translating French mysteries; from their website:
Quote:
Bringing France's best mysteries, thrillers, and short stories to new readers across the English-speaking world. If we love it, we’ll translate it.
I have read a few of their other translated mysteries and enjoyed them, but haven't read this one, which looks a little more thriller-ish than mystery-ish, although it's pretty high on my TBR list. I'm a huge Francophile, so YMMV, and also note this is set in the former French colony of Mali, not in France itself.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B014Q7YISC

Spoiler:
Quote:
A FAST-PACED NOIR WITH A MODERN, AFRICAN TWIST

Solo, a former cop, runs away from a dark past in France to start his life over again in Bamako, Mali, as a PI. He takes on what he thinks is an ordinary case, but quickly finds himself in a dangerous confrontation between tradition and corruption. The drug mule gets her throat slit. The French lawyer is too beautiful and too well-informed. The cocaine is too plentiful. Guillaume crafts a tale of high-level corruption with vivid, spot-on descriptions of the Mali underground.

Called a "Mini Masterpiece" and "an intensely true-to-life mystery on steroids," White Leopard is an excellent English translation from one of France's "most respected thriller writers."

"A thrill ride of epic proportions—the real deal! The perfect combination of street smarts and literary talent." —Craig Johnson, author of the Walt Longmire Mysteries, the basis of the hit Netflix drama Longmire

"Fans of classic hard-boiled PI fiction will relish Guillame’s first book to be translated into English... He delivers a tale of high-level corruption that will resonate with James Ellroy readers.” —PUBLISHERS WEEKLY STARRED REVIEW and Book of the Week Pick

"This is crime fiction as hard-boiled as it gets. Guillaume, winner of literary prizes in France, is likely to win fans here, too." —Booklist

"West Africa is brought vividly to life in this enthralling, fast-paced noir." —Foreword Reviews

"Guillaume displays remarkable knowledge about Mali and its underworld." —Liberation

"Guillaume's energetic writing offers readers a hard-boiled mystery set in a Sahel eaten away by corruption." —Alibi Magazine

"An intensely true-to-life mystery on steroids. It's raw, authentic and topical." —Emotions Literary Blog

"Guillaume's familiarity with the Mali government and community is evident in his vivid, unflinching portrayal of the novel’s setting and characters." — Killer Nashville Book of the Day

"No matter how gritty a hardboiled detective novel can be, it'll always get grittier in the Sahara." —Book Page
