You can have it. I do all those things without a phone. I do require a watch or clock for at least one of those functions AND it doesn't play banjo. Who needs a device that doesn't play banjo???

The Fire phone has a feature like that, too. Did you ever use it? A friend of mine uses it with hers, but I am not sure how to.

I do specially when riding in the car. Have you try typing on a touchscreen while a car is moving. It's near impossible. Also can help when driving as most of the stuff by hand is illegal to do while driving so you can just talk to it instead.

All the time. It's save me many times when in the car with hubby driving. You just hold down the home button till you hear a tone then speak and Alexa will get it for you.

Mine came Wednesday; so yours is only 2 days later than mine. But just think - we'll have worked all the bugs out!
Oops, I guess it got here Tuesday. Sorry. Are you in the middle of a blizzard or anything? Sorry you have to wait so long! Last edited by badgoodDeb; 12-03-2015 at 07:09 PM. |

PS (Im re-reading the whole thread to make sure I've done everything) There is a notch in one of the lower corners of the black band. Start there, for removing it. It makes it easier. Though I do have good nails, so perhaps that helped me.

SilverRaven asked a bit ago whether "Smart Audiobook" was the best app for audiobooks. Any opinions? I do enjoy Aubible's own app, but I mean for other files, like Libribox or other things I've bought.
I'm also setting up my second phone for an 8 year old niece. So I need to make that one work at an 8 year old level too. [Dunno if *that* 8 year old is more or less electronic savvy! I think she's mostly IOS experienced, as I am.] |

Using the SD card for data: I downloaded the Audible app from the Play Store, then told it to move itself to the SD card. I've not downloaded any books yet, but the app happily moved itself. (It said.)
I downloaded the Kindle app, but it refused to move to the SD card. I opened it, registered, and downloaded the book I'm currently reading. Tried again to moved the app to the SD card, but it again failed. Actually, it said it was doing it, but both times it just sorta stopped and said that it couldn't. Any ideas on how SD card usage is managed? What apps, what types of data, can or cannot use it? |

Meanwhile, I got the new version of the Play Store.apk onto my mac, got the Android File Transfer program for my mac*, and put the new version PlayStore.apk** onto the MOTO-E in the Downloads folder. To access it and run it, I think I am supposed to have "ES File Explorer" to find the file, and run it. Soooo I managed to make the current PlayStore find that*** and it is currently downloading. It is big.....
(a) Am I allowed to leave this downloading screen while it downloads? Or will that stop the download? Right now, I'm not even letting the screen go to sleep, lest the download stop! (b) Does the above procedure sound right? Use ES File Explorer to find the new PlayStore.apk file in the Downloads file, so that I can run it, so it will install itself? bgDeb *I had done some of this research last May when I got a Kindle Fire7, then returned it after 2 days cuz I hated it. Too different, and slower than my iPad. Oh, and heavier too. Since I actually wanted a smaller iPad for some upcoming travel, I just got a smaller iPad. But I digress... This time, for $10, I'll bother to learn Android! **not the actual file name ***typing es made the PlayStore crash again. Typing file found me "file managers" and scrolling down finally showed me the ES File Explorer File Manager that I wanted. Perhaps typing ES would have worked. Is it case sensitive? |
