Meet-Up! Texas MobileRead Get-Together - Page 8

I wish I could come but my work event (how is it a work event when it happens on my weekend??) is unavoidable. As penance (wait, it's not my fault), I should organize one in Houston this fall.

So is the likely attendance list for today's event in Austin include Elsi, RickyMaveety, and Amalthia? Anyone else?

what ??? work on the weekend ??? that's outrageous !!! you just tell them where they can take their work event.

I'm here! Sitting in Panera Bread over by the "bakery" section. I've got my lunch (soup and a sandwich) and my Kindle here with my laptop. I created a small sign saying "MobileRead" and propped it on my table. Now I just need to wait for any of the others to find me.

Oh .... Ricky was sooooo lost. I had so many people giving me the worst directions ... and of course I loaned my GPS to a friend. Top that off with running out of gas on a road that has pretty much no gas stations.

So, a trip that should have taken me an hour took two and a half.

Really, sometimes I think I have no business going out of the house in a state where a road has one name at one end and another at the other .... and neither is particularly well marked.

I had a great time (especially once I was properly fed). Nothing better than a good meal and really good company. Poor Elsie won't be home until at least 10:00 (in another hour and a half or so). I went to Home Depot after (of course), and then to PetSmart (but they didn't have enough food to be worth the trip). However, the meet up was definitely worth the trip ... even the getting lost and running out of gas part.

I'm toddling off to bed really (really) early tonight so I can read. Might not make it on much tomorrow because .... alright ... everyone all together now .... I have to go to a party. (How shocking

... I know.

Nope ... it was just the three of us .... and we had a really good time, but we did miss you guys (a little -- it did sort of free us up to talk girl stuff

Definitely worth the trip!

I got to my house at 10:20.

Speaking of running out of gas ...

I left home in my Honda Civic Hybrid with a full tank of gas. Drove to Austin with only one stop at a roadside Rest Area. Left Austin heading for Sanger. The "low fuel" warning light came on just north of the Texas Motor Speedway as I'm flying along I-35W on a 12 mile stretch with no gas stations. At this point there were two "bars" on the gas gauge. (There are about 10 bars at the 1/2 tank mark.) By the time I got to the end of the 12 mile stretch, I had no bars. Drifted into the gas station & pumped 11.984 gallons of gas. According to the documentation, the tank holds 12.3 gallons! I think that is close to qualifying as driving on fumes.

I'm home!!! okay got home a few hours ago, but I'm just now getting online. My ebook reader naturally purged all it's bookmarks/collections just as I was showing it off. I swear this never happens when it's just me looking at my Sony PRS-505. So I'm re-adding my tags.

I had a great time at the meeting. Just wish the cities in texas were a bit closer.
