I wish I could set it so it only went forward/backward one page at a time. I hate accidentally going forward 2 pages, or backwards a bunch for no reason. I never want to go back or forward more than 1. |

My Kobo Touch just got updated to 3.16.0 and there are a couple of annoying features. I usually leave mine disconnected from wifi as this give much longer battery life. Only connect when I want to sync. Now, whenever you open a book, turn it back on after sleep, or do almost anything other than turn pages it bugs you to turn the wifi on. It takes five or six extra screen taps than it should to get rid of the nag screens every time. This is annoying me so much I am going to revert to a previous version. Not had to do that before with any previous "upgrade" from Kobo.
Another annoyance is that when I have selected the Spanish-English dictionary the first time to translate a Spanish word it works fine. The second time it tells me I don't have a Spanish dictionary installed, followed by nag screens to turn the wifi on so I can download the Spanish dictionary. Not that this would do me any good as I want a translation, not a definition in Spanish that I can't read! Selecting the Spanish to English translation dictionary again lets me translate the word, until I get to another Spanish word, then rinse and repeat. Again a new "feature" for this version. I've not seen either discussed so far. Is this just me? |

The wifi issue doesn't happen to me. Once I turn the wifi off I never see a prompt to turn it on unless I try to do something that requires a wifi connection such as sync.
The translation dictionary problem did happen to me when I tried it just now. |

In the glo HD 3.16 I tested last week, when the wifi was off, it prompted for a connexion when searching library and long press on a book (it was an epub) cover (to get a summary) and when entering pocket. I can understand the 1 and 3 but the prompt for a connexion to get the summary was annoying. I don’t get that on my H2O with 3.16 mark 4 sideloaded.

Thanks GeoffR and Cramoisi. Interesting that we are seeing slightly different effects. I've now successfully rolled my Touch back to 3.11.0, so will leave it on that for a bit and perhaps wait until the next release. 3.11.0 lets you leave the wifi off unless it definitely needs to be on. I've not tried the translation dictionaries yet, but am hopeful as I've never seen this issue on any other releases.

I've used 3.12.0 to 3.15.0 and I've not had this WiFi issue with my H2O.

How long does it take for updates to circulate?
I bought my Glo HD directly from Kobo and it is on 3.15 - and yes- ePub performance is slow. Last edited by Jarrett; 06-22-2015 at 09:57 PM. |

As MGlitch said, it can take a while. While I am surprised that the Glo HD hasn't been updated, two weeks is not unusual. In the past, my families devices here in Australia have taken more than three weeks.

Use Calibre and the KoboUtilities plugin, you’ll get the update right away without messing with KoboRoot.tgz etc. |

@davidfor : what do you think of updating a glo HD with KoboRoot.tgz 3.16.0 only ?
I think about that for two reasons : 1. I did that on my H2O and the hyphenation are all correct but I had issues last week when testing the same book on a glo HD full 3.16.0 (see the post hyphen... dutch rules) 2. The glo HD gull 3.16.0 asks for wifi connexion when searching library, when going to pocket and going to a book’s more info (summary, etc). My H2O didn’t and you told me before it couldn’t be device related so I’m wondering why the devices have different behaviors. (3. I might sell the H2O and buy the glo) Last edited by cramoisi; 06-23-2015 at 04:42 AM. |
