I'm new here having just splashed out on the Samsung tab 8 8.4. Does anyone know if OS updates are forced down or will I get the choice to upgrade or not, when Lollipop comes. I want my device to last a long time so i'm in no rush at all.

Each manufacturer is different. With my Nexus 7 and Kitkat I waited months to upgrade. I didn't like how flash didn't work anymore and text reflow quit working on some browsers. I just ignored the update notice in the notification bar.

That's why I'm glad I didn't get rid of my Nexus 7 2012 - I can check out what apps have a problem before I decide to do my Nexus 7 2013. Although with the horrible white backgrounds everywhere I may never upgrade to Lollipop.

I have the same problem!! Upgraded my smartphone last night and noticed gaps in the book I'm reading using Caecilia font. Switching to Georgia or Palatino appears to fix the problem, but I prefer Caecilia. Well, Bookerly is actually my favorite Kindle font, but that's only available on my Kindle Fire. Hopefully this will get fixed in a subsequent update of the Kindle app. |

I successfully downgraded my 2012 Nexus back to Kitkit, now, is there any way to keep it from updating itself again?

I still haven't done my 2013 - just ignore the upgrade notification. I think if the build.prop is changed in any way the update will fail without even starting. I may need to look into removing the notification on mine. I still don't know what to do with my 2012 - I'm going to do a complete wipe and flash the update again at some point. It uses 3% to 5% battery an hour doing nothing. I even uninstalled everything except titanium backup and Root explorer and it still is kept awake.

And even that doesn't seem to be a universal (probably depending entirely on how you primarily use the device) problem. In addition to my N7 2013, I have an N7 2012 that hasn't given me a bit of difficulty since 5.0.2 either.
My initial aesthetic problems with Lollipop disappeared pretty quickly. |

My wife has a Nexus 7 2012 and it is slow with 5.0.x, but my Nexus 7 2013 runs it great and is even faster than it was before. There still seems to be some kind of ram clean up issues and I have to reboot about once a month to recover memory.

My husband also has a 2013 and his is fine. I don't want to do my 2013 because it's all white backgrounds which makes my vision go double. Both the 2013 models we have are LTE and the 2012 is 3G - the 3G model may be more of a problem than the wifi only. I always update my 2012 first because it's just a backup. This way if I really hate it I don't do the 2013.
