If the customer is standing in front of your cash register, and uses a credit card, it is very nearly certain that it is a card present transaction, which costs less.

This isn't rocket science. It's really quite simple:

Customer uses credit card: you pay x.x%

Customer uses Apple Pay: You pay more than x.x%.

Is it that hard to understand?
The prices go up for everyone to cover the increased transaction costs; there won't be a separate lower price for customers who don't use apple pay; the card companies pay apple the difference & the business keep the "other" differences for a higher profit.

Those of us without a "smart phone" will pay more for everything because of apple pay or the rivals.

There used to be signs that cash customers get a discount at some business; don't believe that there will be signs that non iphone (smartphone too?) payees will get a discounted price.

The subject heading should be apple sc*r*w the people again.

In theory, yes. In practice, the difference will be too small to notice. We're talking less than 1% difference. To Walmart, with hundreds of millions of transaction, it's a lot of money. To the average consumer, as an individual, it's pennies at a time.

I hated Apple BEFORE it was fashionable.

What is with these Johnny-come-latelies who are corrupting the noble art of Apple-hating with substandard mass-produced generic twittering?

As another person stated, I hated apple before "these days"; it started with the apple 2.

Let's see, apple: you want to be able to use both upper case & lower case for text? That will be $100+ more for the upgrade. apple: you want to be able to use the tv as a monitor & be able to see colors? Horrors, that will be another $100+ upgrade......

Mac 512: put in a 3.5 floppy from an ibm clone to use on the mac expecting that I'll be able to have the mac reformat the floppy. no go; won't recognize the floppy & won't eject it as the eject was disabled; only able to get the floppy out by unplugging the power cord. floppy works fine on both the ibm clone & atari.

4mm tape drive: bought a new tape drive for the mac which worked perfectly on the ibm clone; was told that the reconditioned pc tape drive will also work but that the tape drives for the pc won't work on apple products but the reverse isn't true.

mac hdd: sysadm had time so swapped the hdd from ibm to imac for proof of apple roms; both drives same size from same manufacturer. pc hdd won't work/recognized on the imac; imac hdd was reformatted by the pc & os installed & working.

I'm supposed to like crapple products? even now the with the hi rez monitors like apple's 5k monitor, I wonder if people will be able to read text without downgrading the system resolution. there is already a problem with the 27" monitors running at 2560x1440 to read the system fonts; in fact, there is even a problem in reading the system fonts at 1920x1080 rez I using on a mac mini as it looks like the system fonts got downsized to not easily readable for older folks.

That's quite a history and quite a lot of knowledge about a product you hate. I'm not trying to be funny or anything but why not just buy something else? I'm just curious.

That's not fair criticism of the Apple II. It's not like there were a range of computers available off the shelf with all those features.
Before the Apple II, you pretty much had to buy EVERY component and build it yourself.

The Apple II was amazing for all it DID include.

I didn't until mid-2011. I was checking the Apple 2 vs the Atari 800; got the Atari 800 & not regretted it. The other encounters were obviously not my computers, but at the workplace except for the tape drive; also needed to check with the newsgroups as to why the non-functionality of the mac.

Got the mac mini for the low price on sale; also research shows that I am able to install a "unix" package for use instead of the mac osx. Did research to find about upgrading memory & found that I can diy to 8 gig for around $45 instead of the $400+ apple was charging.

As an aside, read that the new mac mini has the ram soldered so one has to purchase the mini with the ram configuration installed, at apple's pricing; but if one can afford an extra $400+ then go for it.

True, but the Atari 800 did fit my criteria & was cheaper; CPM was too expensive for me & the Commodore hadn't arrived yet.

The 800 came out almost two years after the Apple II. Moore's Law was already in effect!

I find that I can't read web pages, hardly any of them, without zooming the browser in, and that's on a 22" monitor at 1280 x 1024. I also find that most web sites, with all the various wigits all over the place, virtually all of them ads, are actively hostile to people with weak vision who zoom in. Many ads don't resize, and will notstay in the same relative place, so they end up covering the actual content to the point where the web site is literally unusable.

Some of that sounds like pulling an ECU from a Mercedes and wtf it won't work in my Toyota. IBM had proprietary components back in the day.

Just sayin

Not disks.

Apple and Sun would have special firmware put in standard disks that mostly responded with a special handshake. The Apple and Sun computers wouldn't have anything to do wih disks that didn't have the special firmware.

IBM was proprietary with big iron, but made a deliberate decision to go with standard hardware for personal computers. They also had a gold plated microcomputer line that did not take off.
