iOS 8 is live

I Updated to IOS 8 on my Ipad air and ever since every few minutes a pop up comes up saying unable to download item, I have been through everything and nothing is pending, I spent 2 hours on the line with apple last nite and nothing fixed it.

Im currently trying to downgrade

You have nothing to lose taking you 8.0 version to 8.0.2 and it may just fix the problems you are having.

So far so good, 8.0.2 seams to have fixed things for me, I think my original problems may have been down to updating over wifi.

I found with iOS8, that things not able to be downloaded were things not compatible with the OS. Sadly many apps will get left behind.

I downgraded for a couple I just don't want to do without, because I have not found an adequate replacement. One (shoplist, which I've been using since iphone1) isn't even on the app store anymore and I will just have to deal with the top and bottom black bars. There is an app called shoplist but its not the one I want.

I did my downgrades yesterday, Apple was still signing 7.1.2, if you want to do it.

My iPhone 5 and iPad mini Retina both downloaded the iOS 8.0.2 update too. I'm still using iOS 7.x. I thought Apple said they wouldn't push 8 to our devices? How do you delete the damn downloaded update? I don't want it taking up space and I'm not going to update for weeks, if ever.

Someone has to be the guinea pig. I just installed 8.0.2 on my Air and it seems to be working fine. My Hanx Writer is even back, which 8.0 seemed to cripple. I'd read that some folks were having problems with Bluetooth devices after the upgrade, but I'm listening to the radio through my Freedom Sprint ear buds even as we speak with no problems so far.

Settings > General > Usage > Mnage Storage

It should be listed in there.

Nope, it isn't listed there. I thought Apple promised not to auto DL their updates to our devices anymore, or to at least allow us to delete them. This really makes me mad.

ETA: Okay it was close, but don't click on the Manage Storage option as iOS 8.0.x is listed under Usage and above the Manage Storage option. I found the following on the internet, corrected it, and placed some notes in italics.

Step 1: Go to Settings > General > Usage. (Wait for the page to finish loading.)

Step 2: Select “iOS 8.0.1.” Because it is over 1GB, it is probably towards the top of your list. (It was on top as it is a 2.8 GB file. I didn't see it until page finished loading though.)

Step 3: Tap Delete Update, and tap Delete Update again to confirm.

I have finally figured out what was causing the "unable to download item" pop up on my iPad.

It was the digital booklet from the free U2 album songs of innocence. The only problem I have now is I can't figure out how to either download it from iTunes or stop it from downloading.

i have deleted the album, tried to re download it, apples removal tool just hides the album.

The only way to stop the message is to sign out of my iTunes account.

I just don't understand why they push out an update that's not compatible with current devices. Push it out to the new 6's, sure, but don't make the rest of us wrestle with a new OS that's not going to improve our user experience. (Yes, I'm bitter that I updated and slowed down my 5 for no reason beyond my own gullibility.)

What's slowed down on your 5? Mine runs as fast & smooth as it did with 7.x.x, not experiencing any kind of lag that I've noticed.

Pretty much everything that requires wifi for access or refreshes - apps, Safari, email.

Seems like something's hogging the memory. On both my iPad and iPhone 5S I always have less than 10MB left of RAM. I don't know if that's normal though as there is now actually a use for these apps with the widgets.

No slowdowns though.
